A senior project for a Carson City high school student that involved "extreme couponing" for two months netted more than $1,100 worth of goods that he donated to area veterans.

Dallas Burnett, a Carson High School senior, managed to find, clip, cut, and ultimately save $818.56 in grocery and household items that he donated to the Veterans Guest House in Reno.

Gaming profits at Nevada casinos bounced back in February with a 15.3 percent increased "win" over figures for the same time period in 2012, the state's Gaming Control Board reports Wednesday. For the fiscal year gaming win has increased 2.29 percent.

Carson City area casinos saw a 3.37 percent decline in February profits over February 2012. Casinos in Carson City, Minden and Gardnerville and elsewhere in Douglas County except Tahoe took in $7,598,406 for the month in gaming compared to $7,863,077 in 2012.

The state's first brand has officially been launched: "Nevada. A world within. A state apart."

Gov. Brian Sandoval, Lt. Governor Brian Krolicki and state tourism officials launched the first-ever statewide brand Tuesday that will be used for marketing programs by appropriate state agencies.

An 18-year-old Carson City woman faces felony drug charges after attempting to use UPS to send two ounces of marijuana sewn inside a teddy bear to Montana.

Jennifer Lyn Davis was arrested Monday and admitted to Carson City sheriff's authorities that she was paid $400 to send a male subject in Montana the marijuana, the arrest report states. Davis told investigators she paid for two ounces of marijuana and sewed it inside the teddy bear to send to Montana, the report states.
