Memorial Day Weekend (May 24-27) is coming up, just around the corner, the weather is forecast for gorgeous conditions, and for countless folks in this general area, it will be their first big outdoor adventure of 2013.

So, where to go on that weekend? Well, be advised that no matter where you go (unless it is to some God forsaken location in the middle of nowhere), you can expect to encounter big crowds of people also wanting to enjoy an outdoor outing for the holiday.

So, be prepared for lots of company wherever you go or whatever you do.

Western Nevada College held a unique Multi-faith Baccalaureate Service on May 20 in Carson City, the first in its 41 plus years of existence.

According to religious statesman Rajan Zed, co-organizer of this Service along with Douglas Diversity Student Club of WNC; faith leaders belonging to Christian (various denominations), Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Jewish, Baha’i and Native American traditions blessed the graduates with their respective prayers in this Service. Dance and music also formed part of this ceremony and a representative of non-believers also addressed the Service.

CARSON CITY — Survivors and family members of victims of gun violence were present in the Senate chambers Wednesday when a bill that would require background checks for individuals engaging in the private party sale of a firearm passed on a partisan vote of 11-10.

A Care Flight helicopter was ordered Wednesday after a motorcycle crashed in the southbound lane of the Carson City freeway near the off ramp at College Parkway. The accident was reported at around 1:40 p.m.

The condition of the motorcyclist is unknown. According to emergency dispatchers via scanner a motorist called 911 for help after the motorcyclist was reportedly found in rocks on the side of the road.

Assemblyman Pete Livermore, Carson City Mayor Robert Crowell and members of the Nevada State Prison Preservation Society assembled late Tuesday afternoon to witness Gov. Brian Sandoval sign off on the recommendation to study the feasibility of turning the historic prison into a visitor's museum/attraction.

Cactus Air Force received approval from the Carson City Airport Authority to build a military aircraft and vehicle museum at the Carson City Airport.

Cactus Air Force’s “Wings and Wheels Museum” will be a nonprofit, public museum dedicated to celebrating aviation and military history through preserving, restoring, displaying and use of US military aircraft and vehicles from WWII to present.

UPDATE: Gov. Brian Sandoval signed SB139 into law on Tuesday morning. The bill passed through the Senate with only one vote of opposition, and prior to that it passed the Assembly 30-11 on May 14.

On Monday, Memorial Day, from 1-7 p.m. the Carson Nugget will host the first BBQ of the season. This event is free to the public and offers fun for all ages.
