One of the all-time greats of the San Francisco 49ers, three-time Super Bowl champion Roger Craig will serve as the keynote speaker at the 45th annual Governor’s Dinner in July, the Nevada athletics department announced Tuesday.

The dinner is set for July 12 at the Governor’s Mansion in Carson City. Proceeds from the Governor's Dinner benefit student-athlete scholarships at the University of Nevada.

Shakespeare comes to the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City this June when the Proscenium Players, Inc. presents the Bard’s comedy “Taming of the Shrew.”

Directed by Jeff Fast and performed in traditional Shakespearean language and style, the play tells the story of a rich merchant who won’t allow his fair young daughter to marry until her shrewish older sister does.

Statewide taxable sales in Nevada for March increased by 5 percent over March 2012 and a 5.4 percent increase for the fiscal year, the state's Department of Taxation reports Tuesday. In Carson City, taxable sales increased by 10.9 percent, largely due to the Nevada Legislative session.

Janice R. Ayres, a tireless advocate for the elderly and the disabled, an unshakable Democrat and former member of the Carson City Board of Supervisors died Monday morning at Carson Tahoe Hospital after battling cancer. She was 92.

Ayres was the executive director of the Nevada Rural Counties RSVP Program, a position she held since 1979. RSVP Board member Charlie Abowd confirmed her passing and said directors will meet Tuesday afternoon to discuss arrangements.

Nine people were rescued Saturday after their boat took on water and flipped over near Dollar Point in Lake Tahoe, the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office reports.

Lt. Pete Van Arnum said El Dorado County Sheriff’s boat unit and the U.S. Coast Guard responded to a report of a vessel taking on water near Dollar Point in Lake Tahoe at around 2 p.m.
