The Boys & Girls Club of Western Nevada in Carson City was among 15 charitable organizations in four states to receive a portion of $15,000 from City National Bank.

The bank recently celebrated its 60th anniversary and awarded community grants to charities of choice. The bank will continue to select grants on a quarterly basis this year.

Thunderstorms are possible today with lightning, gusty winds, small hail, and locally heavy rain, according to the National Weather Service.

A low pressure system moving toward the southern California coast will push unstable air north, producing a chance for showers and thunderstorms over the Eastern Sierra and far western Nevada, according to the weather service. The storms will likely remain along and west of Highway 395 and south of Interstate 80.

DeDe Stevens of Carson City is this week's guest on Women to Women. Ms. Stevens was born in Bogota, Columbia of a Columbian birth mother who shortly gave her up for adoption in a Bogota orphanage.

Upon being adopted by an American family, DeDe officially entered the United States when she was 12 years old. She is a graduate of Arizona Western College in Yuma, Ariz., with a degree in Spanish.

Ms. Stevens has also spent 26 years in the National Guard from which she is now retired.

News of Dini’s death was announced at a meeting of the Legislature’s Interim Finance Committee.

A 31-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of felony child abuse causing mental or physical harm after surveillance inside a retail store captured her backhanding her six-year-old son in the face for no apparent reason.

Ashley Rose Mields was arrested at Walmart, in the 3200 block of Market Street at 7 p.m., after Carson City dispatch received 911 calls from customers reporting the incident. She is being held on $40,000 bail.

Tickets are on sale now for the annual Concert Under the Stars: A Benefit for The Greenhouse Project, which takes place July 9, at Café at Adele’s in Carson City and features The Little River Band and Fred Tackett and Paul Barrere of Little Feat.

The evening includes an auction with wonderful big ticket items, including trips and dinner following the show with the band at Café at Adele’s and a “Chair-ity” silent auction to benefit the FFA at Carson High School, where The Greenhouse is located, beginning at 5 p.m. Seating opens at 5:30 p.m. and show begins at 6:30 p.m.
