The Mile High Jazz Band will be joined by singer Jakki Ford and eight award-winning poets and readers for "Long Story Short,” an evening of big-band jazz and poetry, on Tuesday, Sept. 12, from 7 to 9 p.m., at Gina's Good Life Music & Lounge, 507 N. Carson Street inside the Carson Nugget.

The community is invited to celebrate Mile High Jazz Band's 20th anniversary of jazz and poetry events in Carson City. The music is free, donations are welcome. Gina's is a smoke-free, climate-controlled venue, and has a well-stocked bar.

During a recent interview I was asked about my impending retirement from 35 years of pretending to be Mark Twain and was probed about embarrassing moments. That was propitious, as I had just experienced two embarrassing moments in the same day, which was above my average. I was to speak to a room full of California sign language folks at Harvey’s, at least I thought that’s who I was going to be seeing.
