The Saint Vincent de Paul Society is in the middle of a 5-year commitment to provide new winter clothing to our homeless Neighbors in Need in order to protect vulnerable adults and children from our coldest weather. We received a Nevada Covid-19 Grant in 2021 that allowed us to purchase nearly $22,000 of winter coats, gloves, hats, socks and sleeping bags to prevent the spread of Covid-19 within our homeless citizen community.

The Workforce, Career and Technical Education department is presenting an open house for its manufacturing program from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Donald W. Reynolds Center for Technology at the Carson City campus.

Training sessions for volunteers will be held by Night Off the Streets, Inc., warming center on Oct. 17 and again on Oct. 21 at the First United Methodist Church in Carson City.

For the seventh year, NOTS will provide a place for those without homes to sleep during the winter nights from Nov. 1 through March 31. A different church in Carson City hosts the warming shelter each month. All community members are welcome to serve as volunteers.

Two Yerington men have been identified in a fatal crash that happened Oct. 1 on USA Parkway, State Route 439 in Lyon County, according to Nevada State Police Highway Patrol Division.
