The Carson City School District is pleased to announce three of Carson High School high-achieving students have been named Semifinalists in the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program. CHS Seniors Jora Kurland, Mori Kurland and Dylan Olson have qualified as semifinalists and in February 2024, will be notified of their finalist designation for the scholarships.

Gusty winds expected Wednesday prompted the National Weather Service to issue a wind advisory for the Carson City area and surrounding counties from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Due to the potential for high winds in fire risk areas that extend along the western foothills between Carson City, Genoa and Gardnerville, NV Energy may shut off power in the event of a potential wind event that could interfere with power lines.

The Carson City School District and its governing board of trustees were highly distinguished at the Nevada Association of School Boards Annual Conference in Las Vegas this past weekend. District employees and trustees were heavily acknowledged, earning nearly half of all the awards (7 out of 16 – in 13 categories) presented among the 17 districts statewide.

After 25 years as a local antique shop, Hanifin's Antiques in Carson City will close in the next few weeks. Owner Michael Robbins presented Carson City SPCA director Susan Paul with a check for $2,500. Robbins says he is very happy to donate to local charities in his last weeks in Carson City.

He has been extremely pleased with the patrons and city leaders over his time in Carson City. Robbins will be donating to many local charities to express his appreciation with the customers who have supported his business.
