The Carson City School District would like to thank all the crossing guards at the schools in Carson City for their commitment in helping keep students safe. Every school day, rain, snow, sleet or shine, these highly dedicated individuals serve as ambassadors for schools, and for many parents, the only interaction they have with their child’s school.

Patchy freezing fog has developed Tuesday morning across Carson City and western Nevada causing visibility to be limited for drivers on roadways especially through Washoe Valley and Carson Valley.

The Carson City Senior Center will host poet Kathy Nelson on Tuesday, Jan. 30 at 12:30 p.m. Nelson is a poet and a 2024 Nevada Arts Council Artist Fellow. As a relative newcomer to the area, she writes poetry about the northern Nevada landscape and ecosystem in order to acquaint herself with the area’s beauty and distinct character.

The Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation has partnered with Western Nevada College and three other Silver State colleges in an effort to slow the workforce shortage for skilled childcare providers impacting communities. DETR is investing $1.4 million into creating Early Childhood Education programs.

Known for its rich history and one-of-a-kind events, Virginia City will kick off 2024 with the 11th annual Devil Made Me Do It Saloon Crawl Saturday, Feb. 10 in the heart of downtown. Attendees can bring a chosen Valentine (or find one during the event) to explore the town, sampling love-themed drinks at the historic saloons, restaurants and other participating businesses as well as tasting sweet treats.
