Nevada's casinos had a good month in March, posting a 5.13 percent increase over prior year according to figures released today by the Gaming Control Board.

The increase was led by a 12.89 percent increase on Las Vegas Strip, the state's largest gaming region. The Strip's blockbuster month made up for the declines posted at most of the other gaming regions. South Lake Tahoe posted the worst March numbers, a decline of 29.8 percent over prior year.

The Carson Valley region that includes Carson City posted a modest gain of .93 percent.

Rosendo Plancarte-Perez, 30, was arrested Friday night in the 600 block of Hot Springs Road for felony lewdness with a child under the age of 14.

According to the arrest report, the suspect's stepson reported to Carson City Sheriff's deputies that he watched Plancarte-Perez go into his sister's room and lock the door. When the boy asked his sister later what happened, she said he had touched her private parts. The victim told deputies the suspect had been touching her groin area through her clothes during multiple incidents when her mother was at work.

A wrong turn on South Carson Street led to the arrest of a Carson City man Saturday night on felony drug charges.

A Carson City Sheriff's deputy stopped Anthony Honeycutt, 33, in the 4100 block of South Carson Street after the suspect reportedly tried to turn the wrong way and almost hit the deputy's vehicle. According to the arrest report, the deputy noticed a book on how to grow marijuana on the rear seat of the suspect's vehicle when he approached. He also noticed the smell of marijuana when talking to the suspect, and a plastic purple pail with baggies in it on the floorboard.

An abrupt change in weather for Western Nevada and Carson City has prompted the National Weather Service in Reno to issue a winter advisory for the region.

A fast moving area of low pressure will drop into the region and Sierra tonight, bringing rain and the possibility of one inch of snow to the valley floor, according to the weather service and CarsonWeather.com. Anywhere between 2 to 3 inches is expect in the Lake Tahoe basin, with 3 to 5 inches in the Sierra above 7,000 feet.

Freida Carbery of Dayton Food Pantry extended a big thank you to dozens of volunteers, including JPO youths and staff, who organized and ran the May 7 yard sale benefit for the local Dayton Food Pantry, with help from hundreds of people in the region who donated items for the fundraiser, which made $2,173 in one day for the busy pantry at 4 Enterprise Way in Dayton.

Road Report as of May 6, 2011. The following information applies to the period of May 9-15:

There will be temporary lane closures due to utility work on Fairview Drive between Highway 50 East and Butti Way and on North Edmonds Drive (old Edmonds) between Highway 50 East and the intersection with Fairview Drive.

Sidewalk improvements will occur on Long Street between Molly Drive and Saliman Road. No lane closures are expected, however JAC bus stops in this area may be temporarily closed.
