CARSON CITY – A new business index evaluating the states on the effects of their tax systems on entrepreneurship and small business ranks Nevada 3rd behind South Dakota and Texas.

The Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council’s “Business Tax Index 2012” pulls together 18 different tax measures, and combines them into one tax score that allows the 50 states and District of Columbia to be compared and ranked.

The runaway truck ramp at the bottom of Mount Rose Highway in Incline Village was the scene of another tragedy today as a truck driver was killed trying to stop his vehicle using the ramp.

The Nevada Highway Patrol reports that the truck was carrying composite decking material on a flatbed trailer. The driver used the ramp to stop the vehicle, but the cargo broke loose and crushed the cab of the truck.

The Western Nevada College softball team got close, but didn’t bring home the wins over the weekend. Two one-run defeats and two squandered leads stunted the Wildcats momentum during an April 20-21 road series at Snow College.
Snow edged the Wildcats 2-1 and 7-6, then completed the four-game sweep with 8-0 and 8-5 victories in Ephraim, Utah.

Carson City Sheriff's deputies arrested the following individuals for felony or gross misdemeanor allegations:

Brian Angel-Ramirez, 21, a Carson City resident, for possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamines), as well as the misdemeanor allegations of fictitious registration plates, possession of drug paraphernalia, no proof of insurance, and driving under a suspended driver's license. Bail is set at $4,750 plus administrative fees.
Alisha Dawn Bench, 26, a Santa Rosa, Calif. resident, for fugitive from justice. No bail has been set.

Hobart Reservoir, a small, high-mountain reservoir, located at an elevation of 7,600 feet in the mountains between Carson City and Lake Tahoe, will open for the 2012 fishing season on May 1.
Because of its high elevation and location, this reservoir is normally covered with ice, and surrounded by deep snow drifts, when it opens on May 1.
However, this year is entirely different, ice and snow-wise. It will remain open to fishing through September 30.
