With Saturday's opening day of fishing on California waters, you'll need to possess the proper 2012 license to be legal. You can purchase the license and any applicable stamp(s) at a number of local outlets or on the Internet. If you need to buy them, here is some info:

Annual Licenses:
The 2012 non-resident annual fishing license is $120.14, and it is good through December 31, 2012.
Yipes! $120.14 for a California Non-Resident annual fishing license!

Daily Licenses:
A one-day resident or non-resident license is $14.30.

Honeybees Swarm in Carson

Our mild winter has caused many feral honeybee colonies to begin swarming earlier this year.

Swarming is the method that honey bee colonies use to reproduce. A mature overwintered colony splits into two or more colonies by swarming. A new honey bee colony is formed when the mother queen leaves the old hive with roughly 60% of the worker bees. The mother queen will leave the old hive for her daughter to rule.

State Lawmakers Call For Review Of 20-Year Solar Contract

CARSON CITY – State lawmakers today approved $46,284 from a legislative contingency fund to help the Nevada Office of the Military cover a budget shortfall due to high energy costs resulting from a solar project built at three of its sites around the state.

But lawmakers also asked for an attorney general review of the 20-year deal with Sierra Solar to see if the 15 cent per kilowatt hour charge for the electricity can be modified. The rate is now higher than what the agency could get buying power directly from NV Energy.

Gardnerville man identified in North Lake Tahoe truck ramp accident

The deceased driver of the commercial truck that crashed through the runaway ramp at Mount Rose Highway near Incline Village on Monday has been identified as Eric S. Holton, 31 of Gardnerville.
Nevada Highway Patrol troopers were dispatched at 2:48 p.m. to the accident on State Route 431, approximately one-half mile east of State Route 28, near Incline Village. The vehicle involved was a 2006 gray Freightliner truck tractor pulling a 1989 flat bed trailer transporting composite decking materials traveling westbound on the two-lane highway.

U.S. Sen. Dean Heller Calls On Congress To Continue Defunding Of Yucca Mountain

UNR develops technology used for NASA quake monitoring test

RENO, Nev. — GPS technology developed and implemented at the University of Nevada, Reno will be the centerpiece of a major test this year by NASA to pinpoint the location and magnitude of strong earthquakes along the West Coast of the United States. The project was announced by NASA today.
