UPDATE 10:44PM: Multiple fires caused by lightning continue to grow in Douglas County on Friday night though homes are not immediately threatened, fire officials report. As of 10:45 p.m. the Preacher Fire has burned at least 700 acres, the Ray May fire, 40 acres and Buffalo Canyon 1/2 an acre. Sierra Front has described the Preacher Fire as moving at a moderate rate of spread.

Carson City Sheriff's deputies arrested Devin Edward Keller, 43, a Carson City man, just before 6 p.m. Thursday. Keller was arrested for possession of methamphetamine (trafficking amount), as well as the misdemeanor allegations of obstructing an officer, possession of less than one ounce of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail is set at $21,900 plus administrative fees.

Officers also arrested the following individuals for misdemeanor allegations:

  • A 40-year-old Carson City man for failure to register as an ex-felon.

The City Center aka Nugget Project ballot question will go before the Carson City Board of Supervisors for discussion on June 7.

The board last month directed staff to work on wording for a ballot question to seek approval from voters for a quarter cent sales tax increase to fund the project. Now that question will be coming back to the board to decide whether to place it on the ballot.

CARSON CITY – A leading candidate for the Republican nomination for the 4th Congressional District seat said today a $17 million court judgment again him and his family is the result of fraud and not bad judgment.

Danny Tarkanian, one of several Republicans vying in the June 12 primary to face state Sen. Steven Horsford, D-Las Vegas, in the November general election, said the developer in the transaction took his money and used it for purposes other than developing a project in Anza, Calif.

Carson City Sheriff's deputies arrested Anthony John Chappa, 24, a Carson City resident, just prior to 11 p.m. Wednesday. Chappa was arrested for felony allegations of possession of methamphetamines and possession of methamphetamines with the intent to sell, as well as the misdemeanor allegations of driving without proof of insurance, driving with fictitious registration, driving without headlights, and speeding from 1 to 10 over.

CARSON CITY – The National Retail Federation has launched a nationwide 60-day campaign to raise awareness among lawmakers and the public on how what it calls a loophole exempting online sales from sales tax is hurting local communities and job creation.

If Nevada’s five-member Congressional delegation is any indication, the group has its work cut out for it, with three members opposed and two supportive of the idea to allow states to tax online sales.
