At least 350 attended Saturday night's Winter Wine and All That Jazz at the Carson Nugget Ballroom in Carson City. The wine tasting and jazz event was a fundraiser for the Brewery Arts Center. Attendees sipped, sampled and tasted more than 40 wines from around the region, listened to great jazz and even danced into the evening.

Here is the Carson City road construction and maintenance report for the week of Jan. 21-27: There will be work on Snyder Avenue between Bigelow Drive and Center Drive due to utility relocation related to the next phase of the Carson City Freeway.

All of the work will be on the shoulder and no delays are expected.

On Tuesday, Jan. 22, there will be utility maintenance at the following locations. Temporary traffic control will be in place with minimal delays possible.

— Second Street between Carson Street and Curry Street
— Third Street between Carson Street and Curry Street

Thousands of people are gathering in state capitals nationwide to rally against stricter gun control measures.
In Carson City, hundreds of people came together along Carson Street in a demonstration to show support for gun rights. Organizers emphasized it was an unarmed, peaceful rally.

Recently, while dialing thru the radio spectrum I stumbled upon the “conservative” Mike Gallagher talk show, which is broadcast locally here in Carson City, on KKFT-99.1.

Mr. Gallagher stated (and I am paraphrasing here) “our children are not allowed to pray in public schools”

“The United States Supreme Court has never held that students cannot pray in school.

Nevada's unemployment figures continue to show relative signs of improvement with a decline in figures for December at 10.2 percent compared to November's 10.8 percent. In Carson City, the drop was significant, with 10.1 percent unemployment for the month compared to 12.8 percent a year ago, a 2.7 percent difference.

A 26-year-old Dayton man was arrested and faces felony charges of battery on a police officer and probation violation after he allegedly punched a Carson City deputy twice in the face with a closed fist.

Christopher Scholl was arrested at 2 a.m., Thursday in the 1700 block of Fair Way after a foot chase with officers. According to the arrest report, officers were patrolling the area of Empire Ranch Road and Morgan Mill Road. A vehicle entered the Empire Ranch neighborhood and began driving around and came to stop in front of a home on Fair Way.

Carson City emergency crews responded this morning to a two-vehicle accident at Washington and Curry streets in which a truck was reported to have turned on its side and that a passenger inside one of the vehicles was trapped.

According to first responders, the trapped occupant gave authorities a thumbs up that he was OK. Traffic was stopped and re-directed at Curry, Nevada, Robinson and Washington streets. There were two people reported injured in the accident.

The accident happened at around 11 a.m.
