CARSON CITY — Scott Parker has joined the Carson City branch of AAA as the branch manager. He will oversee the 10 employees and office operations related to insurance, travel and memberships of the century-old-plus company. He started on Jan. 14.

Parker, who hails from Medford, Ore., has a long history of management in the insurance industry. This includes a 26-year stint with Farmers Insurance Group in different capacities. He last worked as a district sales manager after serving as a reserve district manager and agency owner as an independent agent.

Reminder: A blood drive is being held today through 11:15 a.m. at the Carson City courthouse parking lot. Every donor is entered to win a $25 Sassafras gift card and is also entered to win a February-wide $500 cash prize.
Walk ups are welcome. The blood donation van will be parked at the corner of Roop and Musser streets. United Blood Services is hosting the event.

A 31-year-old Carson City man was arrested and faces a felony charge of being a fugitive from justice out of California.

Rex Kevin Warren Jr., was arrested Feb. 20, 7:26 p.m. in the 3000 block of Harrison Lane after being contacted by Carson City law enforcement regarding two outstanding warrants. When arrested it was confirmed that he was wanted for being a fugitive from justice, issued in October 2012 by the California Department of Corrections. The warrant was for Warren being a parolee absconder, according to the arrest report.

This week's inspection includes a coffee house, a casino bar and lounge, steak house, Italian restaurant and buffet; a grocery store deli, meat department and sea food department; a submarine sandwich restaurant, a bowling alley bar and lounge and a Chinese restaurant. See the full report below.

A Carson High School student has one more thing to do before she graduates and it's to give back. Seventeen-year-old Nicole Bertholf is an honor student. She studies hard and makes time for her friends, but you would never know this was the same girl just a year ago.

Nevada Highway Patrol employees from Carson City and Reno were honored Thursday in a ceremony. Each year several employees assigned to the NHP Northern Command West region are selected and recognized for their exemplary professionalism and service to the citizens and visitors of Nevada.

This year's ceremony, held in Reno at the NHP office, was to name 2012 award recipients. Carson City employees recognized are James Simpson, picked as Sergeant of the Year and Chesa Emery, selected as Dispatcher of the Year.

Gov. Brian Sandoval has signed a bill legalizing online gambling in Nevada. The signing Thursday afternoon capped a dizzying day at the Legislature in which lawmakers quickly seized on the measure and passed in through both the Assembly and Senate as an emergency measure.
