A 20-year-old former gang associate, who said he has turned his life around, was sentenced Monday to probation, and ordered to stay away from his former associates, as well as juveniles under 16 unless they are immediate family members.

Carson City School District Superintendent Richard Stokes will provide a "State of the District" presentation to the school board when it meets tonight, beginning at 7 p.m. in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, 851 East William Street.

Board members will also hear an update on the Race to the Top grant by Dr. Steve Pradere and get an update on trending education issues in the Nevada Legislature.

A 77-year-old man escaped injury Tuesday after the small plane he was piloting landed on its belly at the Minden Tahoe Airport, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office reports.

East Fork Fire and Paramedics along with the Douglas County deputies responded at to the airport 12:28 pm after the Piper Camanche 400 came into land at the airport.

The owner and pilot Alfred Asti, the sole occupant, stated his approach was high and as the plane came into contact with the ground, the plane bounced. It is believed Asti is from Carson City.

The Bureau of Land Management will hold an adoption on March 23 for several wild horses recently removed from the outskirts of Carson City. Currently eight wild horses including a mare and foal pair will be available. Meanwhile, advocates for the wild horses say they want the family at a California sanctuary instead of being put up for adoption.

RENO, Nev. – Climate data from 13 geospatial monitoring stations across the Great Basin are being made available to researchers, educators and the public by a group of researchers from the Nevada System of Higher Education. They have developed the long-term climate monitoring network specifically designed to measure variations in climate change and are now working to broaden the network’s reach to include the all types of hazard monitoring in the region.

After receiving several inquiries from Nevada residents about donation and fundraising solicitations from organizations, the Nevada Highway Patrol notes that it does not authorize any organizations to accept donations or conduct fundraising efforts on its behalf.

Trooper Barbara Stapleton reports that inquiries have been made about Nevada State Troopers Lodge and the American Association of State Troopers.

A 32-year-old Carson City man faces misdemeanor charges of being in violation of a suspended sentence and possessing drug paraphernalia after he was found by deputies early Tuesday hiding in a garbage can.

The man was arrested at 5:39 a.m. in the 4000 block of Pheasant Drive. According to the arrest report, officers responded to the area in reference to an unwanted subject. On arrival officers made contact with a woman who stated that she let her ex-roommate move back in with her.
