Outgoing Nevada Governor Sandoval releases 2019-2021 biennium budget recommendations

CARSON CITY — Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval issued the following statement Friday regarding the 2019-2021 budget building process and priorities:

Nevada is now the first state in U.S. history to have a Female-Majority Legislature

In a historic move, Nevada is now the first and only state to ever have a female majority state legislation after Rochelle Thuy Nguyen (D) and Beatrice Angela Duran (D) were appointed to two open seats in Las Vegas.

These two appointments bring the total seats held by women to 33 out of a total of 63 seats in the Legislature.

Amodei: Polarization and voter turnout took its toll on the state's GOP candidates

An increase in political polarization that made it hard to peel off swing voters combined with Democratic successes in turning out their voters, led to Nevada GOP candidates getting walloped, said Rep. Mark Amodei, the only remaining Republican in the state’s congressional delegation.

CARSON CITY — Before the beginning of a biennial legislative session, Nevada lawmakers and various other governmental entities submit Bill Draft Requests to the Legislative Counsel Bureau, and LCB staff draft the measure for introduction during the upcoming session.

Hunewill defeats McNeil in Lyon County race for sheriff

In the Lyon County race for sheriff, Frank Hunewill has won over incumbent Al McNeil. Hunewill garnered 10,119 votes to incumbent McNeil who had 9,263 votes.

Hunewill has worked for the Lyon County Sheriff's Office for the last 25 years and is currently the jail commander. 19,382 votes were cast.

Giomi, Luis and Furlong are Carson City's 2018 Election Day winners

The winners of the 2018 contested Carson City elections are Stacey Giomi for Carson City Board of Supervisors Ward 1, Kristin Luis for Carson City Justice of the Peace Department 2, and Kenny Furlong for Carson City Sheriff.

Brothel vote in Lyon County sinks in general, early and absentee voting

UPDATE 12:08AM: With all but 557 early votes remaining to be counted, the movement to end brothels and legalized prostitution has failed among Lyon County voters. As of midnight Wednesday, 16,206 have voted "no" and 3,916 voted "yes."

Problems reported at polling locations in Lyon and Washoe counties

Voters have reported problems at voting locations in two counties, Washoe and Lyon counties. The Lyon County Clerk's office tells KOLO there have been problems in Dayton and in other voting locations with computer programs not updating.
