Carson Tahoe Invests in Earlier Stage Detection of Illnesses

Carson Tahoe Health today announced that patients and physicians in the region can now access the latest diagnostic imaging technology from Philips Medical Systems at Carson Tahoe Minden Medical Center (CTMMC). The CT (computed tomography) scanner produces crisp, detailed images of the body in just seconds.

Flu Vaccine Available

Carson City Health and Human Services and Douglas County Community Health have a large supply of flu vaccine for ages 6 months and older. No appointment needed from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 4:30 p.m. through January 25 (closed January 21).

Clinic locations are 900 E. Long Street in Carson City and 1538 US Highway 395 in the Stratton Center in Gardnerville. Flu rates are affordable; many insurances accepted, and low-cost options available. Call (775) 887-2190 or (775) 782-9038 for more information.

Carson City prepares for widespread increase in flu, vaccines readily available

With widespread flu being reported around the nation, Carson City and Douglas County health officials say they have large supplies of flu vaccine.

Based on recent reports from the CDC, the flu has started to peak nearly 5 weeks early this year, with significant activity reported in over 41 states with 18 deaths reported in children thus far. The predominant current flu strain that is being reported with widespread activity, H3N2 (Influenza A), appears to have good match to the flu strains in this year’s vaccine, according to a news release.

Seventy-two-year-old L. Brown of northern Nevada first learned he had prostate cancer back in 1995. “I tell people who are diagnosed, there is no need to panic, although I certainly did, at least 52 times or more,” he said laughing. “I’ve learned this is something you can control and live with because it is manageable. “

Flu Vaccine and Pediatric Immunization Services at Sierra Nevada Health Center

The Sierra Nevada Health Center in Carson City will be offering reduced cost flu vaccines on Dec. 21 and Dec. 28 from 1 to 4 p.m. The reduced cost of the flu vaccine is $15. They are accepting new patients who would like to receive the flu vaccine. They are also offering pediatric immunizations on Dec. 20 and Dec. 27 from 1 to 4 p.m. at 3325 Research Way. No appointment is necessary.

Swim program for autistic children and adults developed at Carson City Aquatic Facility

The Carson City Recreation Department, through the generous support of Let Them Be Kids, is proud to announce the Joe Lopez Adult/Child Swim Hour for Children with Autism and ASD.

This program is a first of its kind in the Carson Valley and is designed specifically to expose children and adults with autism or ASD to the water. The swim hour is free of charge to anyone affected by Autism and is the precursor to the Joe Lopez Adaptive Swim program which will teach water safety and swim lessons to those on the spectrum and is set to begin in the first quarter of 2013.

The Lodge to Offer Free Respite Care

The Lodge Assisted Living and Memory Care Community in Carson City will give busy caregivers a break this holiday season by offering free respite care for their elderly loved ones.

It’s often difficult for caregivers to find time for themselves and that challenge is compounded during the busy holiday season. Because of that, Lodge employees will offer the free respite help on December 12th and 19th from 11am to 3pm.

'Test Drive' Barton Memorial Hospital's 'da Vinci' during Nevada Day

Barton Memorial Hospital’s da Vinci® Si Surgical System will be on display for special public viewing during Nevada Day on Saturday, October 27 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Carson City’s Nugget Convention Center Lobby.

Nevada Day attendees will have the opportunity to “test drive” the da Vinci and enter to win an iPad. Barton Memorial Hospital, located in South Lake Tahoe, is one of the only hospitals serving Northern Nevada and California to offer da Vinci single-site gallbladder surgery.
