Free Flu Shots for Food

From November 15 through December 9, donate 2 cans of food and receive a voucher for a free flu shot or nasal spray vaccine, redeemable during our regularly scheduled immunization hours on Thursdays.
Celebrity Chef and Harvest Dinner to benefit The Greenhouse Project
Submitted by admin on Thu, 11/10/2011 - 6:20pmThe second annual Celebrity Chef and Harvest Dinner to benefit The Greenhouse Project takes place Nov. 14 at Adele’s Restaurant and Lounge in Carson City.
The evening is limited to 80 guests and features six courses paired with wine, prepared by Adele’s chef and owner, Charlie Abowd and guest chef Mylan Schmidt of Coco Dolce, Carson City.
Course sponsors at $1,000 and co-sponsorships at $500 are sought to offset the cost of meal preparation and other sponsorship opportunities will be available that evening.
Smith's Food & Drug Stores supports the Nevada Health Centers Mammovan with a generous donation of $24,570.00

Tha Nevada Health Centers Mammovan travels throughout the state of Nevada providing mammograms to geographically isolated and uninsured women. Donations from community minded organizations like Smith's Food & Drug Stores are helping to make the women in Nevada healthier.
UNR video game project to offer exercise for blind children
Submitted by editor on Fri, 10/14/2011 - 3:37pmA research project at the University of Nevada, Reno has received a $410,220 grant to explore how video exercise games can be played without using visual feedback so the visually impaired, especially adolescents, can improve their health through increased activity. The funding comes from the human-centered computing program of the National Science Foundation.
21st Annual Women's Wellness Week at Tahoe's Granlibakken

The event fuses Eastern tradition with Western practices to offer a balanced weekend interactive clinics on skin screenings, body/muscle testing; inspirational and informative seminars on health, nutrition, aging; recreational activities along with food and wine.
Halloween Candy Buy Back Program for the Troops

Dr. Olson will be buying candy from the kids $1/lb (up to $5) . We will then ship the candy to the troops. Halloween candy represents a warm memory of life “back home” and children that care enough to donate candy in support of our troops. We were wondering if this is something you would be interested in writing an article on? We would really like to get the word out to the community that we will be participating in this event.

FDA clears new AIDS test developed by UNR microbiologist

The Food and Drug Administration has cleared a new diagnostic test that will help save the lives of hundreds of thousands of AIDS patients stricken with cryptococcosis, a fungal meningitis. The test was developed through a collaboration between Tom Kozel, professor of microbiology of the University of Nevada School of Medicine, and Sean Bauman, president and CEO of IMMY (Immuno-Mycologics) of Oklahoma.

Tahoe Bike Challenge, Car-Free Day a Success

Through late spring snow and cold temperatures, more than 300 people around Lake Tahoe rode in the 2011 Tahoe Bike Challenge, logging over 3,000 commuter bike or pedestrian trips and 10,000 miles of zero-emission travel. The Federal Highway Administration estimates that 1.9 pounds of CO2 is prevented by every bicycle mile traveled.
