Roper’s HVAC delivers 50 new cooling fans for Carson City seniors

Dirk Roper, owner and CEO of Roper’s Heating and Air Conditioning, made the first of many summer deliveries of 50 new cooling fans Thursday to the Carson City Senior Center as part of the KOLOCares 2023 Fan Drive to help Carson City seniors stay cool this summer.

Carson City's Max Casino plays host to inaugural July 4 Hot Dog Eating Championship

July 4, 2023 - 6:00pm This Tuesday, July 4, Max Casino will host its inaugural Hot Dog Eating Championship. Six contestants will go bun-to-bun to see who can eat 10 hot dogs the fastest in 10-minutes. The winner will walk away with the Max Casino “Top Dog” Championship trophy and $500 cash. Second place will walk away with $100 cash.

Not even salvage cutting is being done in the huge fire of two years ago that burned a good part of Alpine county and Markleeville areas. All that timber has been left to rot on the stem and will soon be falling creating fuels for the next burn down the road.

It has come to the attention of City officials that some residents may be experiencing difficulty in viewing the live broadcast of Carson City Board of Supervisors meetings on channel 191. The City has reached out to television service providers to find a solution to this issue and apologizes for any inconvenience.
When bears and vehicles collide: More cars on Tahoe roadways increases bear fatalities

Drivers Beware. Throughout the year the Lake Tahoe Basin experiences fluctuations in the number of visitors and vehicle traffic. The winter ski and summer recreation seasons bring more vehicles to the Tahoe Basin, which increases the risk of bears being struck by vehicles. Bear-vehicle collisions pose a risk to bears, people and property.

Douglas County Community Services Director Scott Morgan will serve as the Interim Assistant County Manager while the County launches a competitive recruitment for a permanent Assistant County Manager. Scott Morgan accepted this appointment on June 24, 2023.
