The Carson City Sheriff’s Office Investigation Division is asking for assistance in identifying two suspects in a case involving passing counterfeit money.

After all these years of gardening in Northern Nevada, I am occasionally still fooled into thinking “Maybe this year we are having an early spring.” I know better, believe me, but these past weeks of superb weather are luring me into that false belief. UPDATE 1:27 p.m.: According to Joe France, the owner of Carson City Joe’s, the post to Carson City Joe’s Facebook page was not authorized by Joe. The business is closing, but the situation is complex, and litigation is involved. Additional details will be forthcoming.

Carson City Joe's, located at 1301 N. Carson Street, has closed, and will be replaced by Don Jose's Bar and Grill, according to Carson City Joe's staff.
Gardnerville man booked for domestic battery, other charges after standoff with deputies

Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Patrol units responded Tuesday to a convenience store on Tillman Lane in the Gardnerville Ranchos to meet with a female victim of domestic violence.

Today, Feb. 2 is Groundhog Day or Candlemas Day if you are European. In the U.S., we celebrate this Pennsylvania Dutch tradition which was made famous in the popular Bill Murray movie "Groundhog Day.” In fact, after two years of Covid, Groundhog Day feels familiar since we seem stuck in the same scenes over and over again.

An earthquake with a magnitude of between 3.64 to 3.5 shook south of Markleeville at 5:41 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Nevada Seismological Laboratory and USGS.
