COVID-19 Omicron variant detected in Washoe County; booster doses, prior infection show increased protection

The first reported case of Omicron in Northern Nevada has been confirmed in Washoe County according to the Nevada State Public Health Laboratory. Omicron was first detected in Nov. 2021 in South Africa and quickly spread across the world.

Carson City arrests: Man runs from deputies, found with multiple baggies of drugs

A 24-year-old man was arrested Dec. 17 for alleged drug possession offenses as well as a felony warrant and running from deputies following a traffic stop, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

Forest Service to remove bark beetle dead trees from Galena Creek area

CARSON CITY — The Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest’s Carson Ranger District is working with Mooretown Rancheria to remove dead and dying trees killed by bark beetles in the Galena Creek area in southern Reno, Nevada, starting on Tuesday, Dec. 21, if weather allows.

Knights of Columbus donate to Carson City's Eagle Valley Children's Home

Members of Knights of Columbus Council 4781 in Carson City presented a check for $1123.44 to Donna Clark, Executive Director of Eagle Valley Children's Home, on Thursday, Dec. 16.

The Knights raised the money with donations from their Campaign for People with Intellectual Disabilities. Members of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic church gave the donation to support Eagle Valley Children's Home and Nevada Special Olympics.

Carson City arrests: Pair suspected of running credit card forgery lab out of hotel

Two were arrested Saturday for allegedly using and possessing a sophisticated financial forgery lab where they, among other things, washed checks and created fraudulent credit cards, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office Special Enforcement Team booking report.
