October 5, 2019 (All day) Save the date and join us at Mills Park on Oct. 5, 2019 for Relay for Life of Carson City and Douglas County. It will be a day to CELEBRATE, REMEMBER AND FIGHT BACK and we work towards ending those words "YOU HAVE CANCER"! There will be food, music and entertainment to celebrate the day. This year we have added a 5K to Relay that will be a glow run starting at 6:30pm.

Nevada Dept. of Agriculture signs horse management cooperative agreement with nonprofit

The Nevada Department of Agriculture has entered into a second non-exclusive cooperative agreement with Wild Horse Connection, a Nevada-based nonprofit, for the management of horses in the Virginia Range, officials announced Tuesday.
July initial unemployment claims in Nevada climb, but substantially down over year

Lyon County Commissioner Greg Hunewill died Monday, August 19, at Carson Tahoe Hospital, Lyon County Manager Jeff Page said Tuesday. Hunewill, 61, had been suffering with health issues since January, said Page.
Reno-Tahoe Airport to hold safety and security drill

USGS awards $12.5 million for ShakeAlert earthquake early warning system

RENO — The U.S. Geological Survey has awarded more than $12.5 million to seven universities and a university-governed non-profit to support operation, improvement and expansion of the ShakeAlert earthquake early warning system for the West Coast of the United States.

Having made it through the first day of school in Carson City, it is onward and upward as we head into Tuesday, August 20, 2019. Events around the area include fitness hikes and bike ride, a free floral design class at Silver City School House, art showings and Congressman Mark Amodei at Casino Fandango. Also featured is the launch of the Jukebox International Film Festival at the community center, a jazz quintet performance at Comma Courtyard and the 115th birthday celebration of Count Basie as part of the Jazz and Beyond music festival. Enjoy the day.
