Legal Survivor Course for Legal Support Professionals

This one-day seminar offering 6 hours of CLE is designed as a “survivor course” on various legal topics designed to improve and develop the skills needed by a legal support professional facing today’s legal challenges. Topics include: Grammar, Mental health Issues in the Criminal Justice System, Trends in Legal Ethics, NRCP Discovery Update, Guardianship Compliance, and a special presentation by the 92nd (WMD) Civil Support Team. Cost before 9/18: $96; after 9/18: $116. NALS members may deduct $10. Lunch is included in the price. The seminar will be held at Tamarack Junction, 13101 S.

Carson City deputies called to possible robbery in progress at US Bank

UPDATE: 6:09 p.m. According to Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong, the root of the incident tonight was yet another telephone scam that has led to a terrible situation.

According to Furlong, no one has been arrested and no robbery took place. A man received a call from Mexico saying his daughter had been kidnapped and was being held for ransom, and the man went to the bank to retrieve funds to rescue his daughter.

However, the call was a scam; one of two that have occurred just today that the Carson City Sheriff's Office has dealt with, said Furlong.

Kicking up dirt: Amateur and Pro dirt bikers show their skills this Friday and Saturday at Fuji Park

For the third year in a row, over 250 dirt bike racers will gather in Carson City at Fuji Park for their chance to win a $10,000 prize at the Fuji Park Flat Track dirt bike races this Saturday.

Reader John Green Jr. snapped photos of some of the riders practicing Friday afternoon to get ready for the big race.

Amateur riders will show their skills throughout the day, and professional races will begin tonight and tomorrow at 7 p.m.

Vigil planned to recognize and prevent opioid overdose; training provided Thursday

The public is invited to a candlelight vigil Thursday at Bob McFadden Plaza in honor of International Overdose Awareness Day.

“The opioid epidemic is so huge, even in a town of our size,” said Samantha Szoyka, the youth program and outreach coordinator for Partnership Carson City. “As a community, we are starting to talk about it, but people still don’t know what resources are available to them or how they can connect with those resources.”

The vigil, which begins at 7 p.m., will feature a guest speaker and booths distributing information.

Responders called to accident with injury in front of S. Carson restaurant, traffic blocked

Dispatch advised two vehicles were involved in an accident near the 3300 block of S. Carson Street just after 3 p.m. on Friday. Injuries were reported.

All three northbound lanes are blocked and NV Energy advised they had one of their employees directing traffic.

Sheriff's Office deputies and first responders are currently en route.

Motorists should avoid the area if possible. Traffic delays are to be expected. All traffic northbound is currently blocked as of 3:09 p.m.

Carson City man arrested after son found a loaded AK-47 in closet and fired into neighbor's apartment

A 31-year-old Carson City man was arrested in the area of Alouette Thursday evening for felony possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and two counts of child endangerment or neglect.

First responders called to vehicle accident at Nye and College

UPDATE 10:40 a.m.: A tow was called for two vehicles at the scene.

According to dispatch, first responders were called to the area of Nye and College Parkway just before 10:30 a.m. on Friday on reports of a vehicle crash.
