Carson City deputies called to possible robbery in progress at US Bank
UPDATE: 6:09 p.m. According to Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong, the root of the incident tonight was yet another telephone scam that has led to a terrible situation.
According to Furlong, no one has been arrested and no robbery took place. A man received a call from Mexico saying his daughter had been kidnapped and was being held for ransom, and the man went to the bank to retrieve funds to rescue his daughter.
However, the call was a scam; one of two that have occurred just today that the Carson City Sheriff's Office has dealt with, said Furlong.
"These types of scams are becoming more frequent and more common," said Furlong. "This is the second one today. It's important to check with a friend and check with law enforcement before taking any action to make sure a situation isn't another scam."
Nothing further.
