Study: Absent for 80 years, bears returning to Nevada’s Great Basin

A new study from the Wildlife Conservation Society, Nevada Department of Wildlife and the University of Nevada-Reno finds that conservation efforts have resulted in successful re-colonization of black bears into portions of their historic ranges in the Great Basin in Nevada. The animals had been absent from these areas for more than 80 years.

Carson City Sheriff's Office asks for help finding stolen bouncy ball vending machine

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public's help in locating a vending machine that was stolen from Smith’s grocery store between Nov. 6 and Nov. 14. The vending machine contained 40 millimeter rubber bouncy balls and is valued over $500.

Two jailed in Douglas County on meth, cocaine trafficking charges

A traffic stop Sunday in Gardnerville led to the arrest of two men who face drug trafficking charges after methamphetamine and cocaine were recovered, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.

Brian Reedy, Carson City Parkinson’s Advocacy and Awareness co-director, said he knew exactly who to approach to design a logo for his support group. Having spent 20 years working at Carson High School, with the tail end of his career in the Career and Technical Education program, he knew Patricia Ababio’s graphic design III and IV students would be the perfect choice.

Clear Creek Bowman Holiday with a Hero 3D Shoot

The Clear Creek Bowman Holiday with a Hero 3D shoot is happening December 3rd!
15 to 25 3D targets will be out. Unmarked yardage, but binoculars and rangefinders are ok.
What is the cost, you ask? A $10.00 donation, that will go to "Holiday with a Hero" through the Carson City Sheriff's Department.
This is a fun shoot for a great cause, so dust off your bow one last time and come on out and have some fun.

The shoot is being held at the Centennial Park Archery Range in Carson City.
Registration starts at 9:30am and the shoot starts a 10:00am.

Last week, a basketball game among rivals Douglas High and Carson High inspired more comradery than animosity as it raised money for the teens injured in the Nov. 9 rollover. Tonight, an alumni hoops battle takes place to raise more money; go cheer them on, we are all winners in this game. The weather should be wonderful for this afternoon’s downtown walk with Muscle Powered. The Friends of the Carson City Library bring author J.L. Pattison to Browsers Corner for their November meet and greet.

Carson City Sheriff Furlong names Ken Sandage as New Undersheriff

Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong has named Assistant Sheriff Kenny L. Sandage to be appointed to the position of Undersheriff in December.

Mr. Sandage will assume the duties and responsibilities vacated by retiring Undersheriff Steve Albertsen. Ken Sandage, a decorated 26 year veteran with the Sheriff’s Office, has held the executive administrative position of Assistant Sheriff since August 22, 2014.

Tricycle stolen from Carson City handicapped man recovered

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office reports Monday that a tricycle that was stolen earlier this month from a handicapped man who used it as his only mode of transportation was recovered in Carson City by a member of the community.
