Nevada State Democratic Convention Convenes in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS — Six-hundred or so of the state’s Democratic party faithful this morning attended their annual state convention at the Bally’s Hotel conference center in Las Vegas. Five-hundred sixty-two delegates were credentialed but about two dozen vendors lined both sides of the room and guests were also welcomed.

Since the widely popular stength and conditioning program, Crossfit, came to Carson City, the Carson City Crossfit team have made it very clear to their members that more than anything, Crossfit is about planning and achieving goals.

Today, a group of women from Carson City Crossfit's All-Woman Bootcamp,PINK, met their monthly goal at the Sparks Foam Fest. The Sparks Foam Fest is a 5k marathon that is filled with many obstacles similar to that of the widely-known Tough Mudder.

Winners in Free Fishing Day poster contest

When it comes to the Free Fishing Day Poster Contest, an annual art contest for the Silver State's fourth and fifth graders sponsored by the Nevada Department of Wildlife, this round definitely goes to the girls.

Selected from 363 entries, this year’s winners were all young ladies.
The top spot went to fifth grader Stacey Horton from French Ford Middle School in Winnemucca.

The two runners-up were sent in by Gabriella Perkins, fifth grader from Bud Beasley Elementary in Sparks, and Josephine Payan, fourth grader from Mark Twain Elementary in Carson City.

Trans-American Electric Bicycle Tour Talk

Muscle Powered will be hosting a talk by Boris Mordkovich and Anna Mostovetsky who have been transecting the country riding their electric bicycles.

The Trans-American Electric Bike Tour is a 4,000 mile journey from New York to San Francisco. The entire trip is self-supported, just two electric bicycles, and all the equipment and gear needed for the two-month journey. Thomas Deal has been named Food and Beverage Director of the Carson Nugget.

Deal has worked 22 years in Restaurant Management and Food Preparation and has worked in restaurants including Cantina Los Tres Homebres, BJ’s Restaurants and TGI Fridays.

Deal is a 14 year resident of Nevada. He is married to Julia Deal and has a 12-year-old son.
