Lawmaker Panel Unanimously Selects Staffer Richard Combs As New Director Of Legislative Counsel Bureau

CARSON CITY – Richard Combs, currently an Assembly fiscal analyst and member of the LCB staff since 1994, was the unanimous choice today of a legislative panel to become the next director of the Legislative Counsel Bureau.

The recommendation of the Committee to Consult with the Director will now go to the Legislative Commission for action later this month.

Greenhouse Project Plant Sale

Carson City’s Greenhouse Project will hold a plant and yard sale on Saturday, May 19th from 8am to noon. Several varieties of seedlings and small plants will be available including tomatoes, peppers and petunias. The Greenhouse opened in December 2011, these plants are the first crops grown in the facility. There will also be a yard sale of donated items including restaurant supplies and household items. All money raised will benefit the Greenhouse Project.

The Greenhouse Project is located on the campus of Carson High School, 1111 N. Saliman in Carson City.

Presidential Race Gets Local Focus As Obama, Romney Supporters Weigh In On Jobs, Deficit

CARSON CITY – While Mitt Romney and Barack Obama were campaigning elsewhere today, Nevada Democrats and Republicans took up the battle for the presidency on their behalf.

Rep. Joe Heck, R-Nev., held a telephone conference call to talk up Romney’s credentials as a “turnaround specialist” who will get the country back on track. He also criticized Obama for failing to get spending or the national deficit under control as he promised early on in his presidency.

AAUW Installs New Officers

The American Association of University Women, Capital Branch recently installed new officers for 2012-13. Not pictured is Treasurer Carolyn Harris. AAUW, a nationwide network of more than 100,000 members and donors, advances equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research. The Capital Branch does fundraising each year to present scholarships to local college-bound women.

Rep. Joe Heck Joins With Sen. Dean Heller In Opposing Federal Legislation To Require Online Sales Tax Collections

CARSON CITY – Rep. Joe Heck, R-Nev., said today he agrees with his congressional colleague in opposing federal legislation requiring online merchants to levy sales taxes on purchases.

Heck, interviewed on the Face To Face television program, said he agrees with U.S. Sen. Dean Heller, R-Nev., in opposing such legislation in Congress.

FERNLEY 95A SPEEDWAY RACE RESULTS for 5/12/2012

The weather was perfect and the track was smooth and fast for Fernley 95A Speedway’s third race of the season. More than 70 cars were on hand for the five racing divisions on the 3/8 mile clay oval, with an additional nine Outlaw Karts racing on the small infield track.

Without enough girls for a legal team at game time, the Dayton Affordable Paralegal Services Little Devils suffered a forfeit to the CarsonNow.org Pink Diamonds.

This brings the Pink Diamonds record to 7-3 for the season with 4 games to play. On a beautiful afternoon, the teams went on to play and Pink Diamond players Sarah Gomer and Savanna Sharp volunteered to help out the Little Devils.
