Do you have a middle or high schooler ready to hit the slopes? Now’s your chance! Winter 2024 Shred Kids Ski and Snowboard Trips are returning with four Friday afternoon dates on Jan. 12, 19, 26 and Feb. 2.

This is a Middle School and High School Ski and Snowboard program. The program consists of four trips to Boreal Mountain Resort after school on Fridays.

The Northern 5A boys and girls all-region cross country teams were announced Tuesday. They were based on this year's regional results.

The 8th annual Carson Christmas Craft Fair will be returning to Fuji Park again this year with three shopping dates throughout November and December.

The event is located inside the Fuji Park Exhibit Hall at 601 Clear Creek Rd. across from Costco, and this year over 45 vendors will be on site so you can find the perfect unique gifts for your loved ones this holiday season.

A vehicle crash was reported just after 6 p.m. Friday night on E. William in the 1800 block.

The vehicle reportedly crashed into the side of a building and the driver is believed to be impaired according to dispatch.

Beautiful colors filled the skies over Carson City Friday morning

On Nov. 9, 2023 at around 3 p.m., the Special Enforcement Team (SET) of the Carson City Sheriff’s Office contacted a suspicious U-Haul parked at the Carson City Nugget at 507 North Carson Street.

The U-Haul had a sunscreen placed over the windshield of the truck, but the detectives were able to see it was occupied by two people, Chad Hooser, 36, and Maile Daugherty, 29, who appeared to be using narcotics. Hooser was later determined to be a convicted felon.

Truly fortunate people are those who have lifelong friendships. Anna and Leah Roylance may be among the luckiest as they bonded in utereo. Their mom, Allison Roylance, tells her girls “you’re welcome for hand-crafting a best friend for you.” Anna and Leah are top students with impressive accomplishments in singing and musical theater and a bright future ahead of them, which is why they are Seniors in the Spotlight.

The following item was scheduled to be heard at the November 14, 2023 Planning Commission Meeting and will now be continued to a later time that will be determined by the Planning Commission.

UPDATE 11:30 a.m.: Responders are returning from the scene. We’ll update with information on the investigation when it becomes available.

UPDATE 9:50 a.m.: The fire has spread to a nearby residential unit. Firefighters will be collapsing the roof to gain better access to the fire.

Just before 9:30 a.m., first responders were dispatched to a fully engulfed car fire on Lone Mountain Drive with reported explosions.

All passengers are out of the vehicle.

The next Carson City School District School Board meeting will take place Tuesday Nov. 14 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Robert ‘Bob’ Crowell Board Room within the Carson City Community Center.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called early Thursday evening to a vehicle crash in the area of the roundabout at South Carson and Stewart streets.

High school level lacrosse is now available to all Carson City area boys ages 14 to 17 through the Carson Lax Club. Boys lacrosse is an outdoor contact sport with common elements of basketball and hockey.

UPDATE 2:15 PM: Mining explosives found in a box at an Arrowhead Drive residence in Carson City on Thursday morning led to an investigation and call to Douglas County Bomb Squad to detonate the box, apparently bought at an estate sale.

A 27-year-old man was arrested Tuesday for suspicion of three counts vehicle burglary and possession of stolen property, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.
