SILVER SPRINGS, Nev. — The public is invited to the monthly breakfast meeting of the Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties on Thursday, Feb. 8, 9 a.m. at the Silver Springs Community Center. Each month the private nonprofit convenes for a meeting featuring guest speakers and ongoing planning on issues impacting the region.

What’s Up on Wednesday? A Short Film Competition, music, dancing, and more

Channel the rare blood blue moon eclipse into something creative and enter the ‘Tell Me You Love Me’ Short Film Competition that begins today. Get a beautiful view of the full moon in picturesque Washoe Valley during a guided hike at the state park, just make sure to reserve your spot first. Something sweet is in store today at Baskin Robbins; they are celebrating ‘31’ with $1.50 scoops all day, and with the spring-like weather, ice cream might not be a bad idea.

It's Your City: Aspiring local filmmakers wanted for Valentine's themed short film competition

This week's edition of It's Your City is about love stories and films, and short films we'd love to see made that are love stories. The Carson City area digital arts community known as Wired Wednesday, in partnership with the Brewery Arts Center, will host an all-new film competition this year in the spirit of Valentine's Day.

Reno, NV – Pets of the Homeless is sponsoring Galena Veterinary Hospital to participate in this year’s Project Homeless Connect 2018. Dr. Ford along with staff and volunteers from Pets of the Homeless will be offering a basic exam, vaccinations and nail trims to attendees on January 30, 2018 at the Reno Event Center. Pets of the Homeless has sponsored this wellness clinic since 2011. If a pet is ill or injured, the client is referred to Pets of the Homeless to apply for immediate emergency care.

Carson City begins recreational cannabis sales

Carson City began legal, recreational cannabis sales Monday, at two locations. Rise Dispensary located on the south end of town and Sierra Wellness on the east side opened their doors at 9 a.m. Any customer 21 years of age or older can now legally purchase cannabis products at these Carson City locations.

Recreational marijuana sales are set to begin in Carson City on Jan. 1. There are currently two medical dispensaries in the capital city: Sierra Wellness Connection and RISE.
