The weekend is quickly approaching, but don’t rush past the fun that Thursday has to offer. Check out the Jazz and Beyond offerings: Carolyn Dolan with members of the Reno Jazz Orchestra at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall or music with the New World Jazz Project on the Adele’s Veranda. Telegraph Square will be abuzz with art and music as the third Community Art Night takes place: bring something non-perishable for the F.I.S.H. food bank and an appetite for food truck offerings.

Are you ready for the weekend? The weekend is sure ready for you with the monthly Downtown Wine Walk, the final Levitt Amp Concert the Brewery Arts Center, and the Wild West Rodeo at Fuji Park. Live music galore, classic cars, theater, dancing and so much more await. Continue on for the low down.

I can understand if your plans for the weekend include sitting half-naked in front of a swamp cooler with an icy beverage. It has been quite roasty these last few days. Let me, however, attempt to lure you out with this weekend’s event list; there is plenty of fun to be found around the valley. Some of your options even include air conditioning and icy beverages.

SATURDAY:

I am quite fond of Tuesdays. For a weekday, they usually have some great offerings. Today's Easy Walk with the Parks and Recreation Department takes you along the Moffat Open Space on the east side of town. The Children's Museum of Northern Nevada offers 'Books and Brags', essentially a story with craft time. Have a hot time with the fire-dancers of Controlled Burn: they meet at A to Zen on Tuesdays and welcome newcomers.

TUESDAY:

Compared to the last few weekends, Carson City is downright sleepy. That just makes it much easier to get around town and explore. Head to Mills Park for the First Annual Polynesian Festival in the Marv Teixeira Pavillion. Glen Eagles welcomes back the Regional Chili Cook-off this weekend; get your fill of some amazing grub and help raise funds for Honor Flight Nevada. Wednesday, July 6: Things to do in Carson City
Downtown is in a for a new building; Hop and Mae Adams Foundation breaks ground at Curry and Telegraph this morning. Yummy stuff awaits at the Wednesday Farmers Market. Check out some evening fun with Geeks Who Drink Trivia at Westside Pour House. Track down some creepy crawlies with a Scorpion Hunt at Washoe Lake State Park; bring a black light if you have one.

The fireworks went off in Carson City last night without a hitch, bringing the end of another incredible weekend. Today may feel a little like a Monday, but there are plenty of ways to enjoy yourself. Check out the new Spirit of America show at the Nevada Artists Association Gallery at the Brewery Arts Show. Our local Classic Cinema Club meets tonight and will be showing 'A Walk in the Sun' with Dana Andrews. If you feel like playing with fire, Controlled Burn meets at A to Zen to practice the right way to handle the flames.

TUESDAY:

Planes, trains, and bicycles are the theme of this Fathers’ Day weekend. Epic Rides has taken over downtown with booths, bikes, beer, music, and more. The Carson City Airport is hosting their annual Fly-in and Open house, complete with hot air balloon rides. World War II aviation buffs won’t want to miss the Wings of Freedom tour at the Minden Airport. Steampunk meets Steam trains at the Nevada Railroad Museum. Keep reading for all of this weekend’s options for fun.

SATURDAY:

Go for broke this Wednesday. Or you could go for Baroque this evening with the Tahoe Symphony at Corpus Christi Church just south of town. Another good bet is karaoke at Crossroads Lounge: it’s in the East Winnie Lane shopping center with San Marcos Grill and Bleu Café. The West Side Cruiser Ride for Bike Month is a sure thing. Meet at the Brewery Art Center, costumes are highly encouraged, and then meander around our beautiful downtown with some other fun people. Living the Good Life wants you to enjoy a music jam; bring your instrument if you want to sit in.

Let’s go to the Fair, Carson City. Mills Park is hopping with activity: a carnival, car show, exhibits, music, and a return of the Rendezvous. If you have kids, don’t miss this month’s Young Eagle Flights at the Carson Airport, just make sure to sign up by 8 a.m. Start your day at the Third and Curry Farmers Market, and don’t forget to make your artistic mark on a handcrafted bowl for the Empty Bowls event. Washoe Lake State Park is offering a variety of events during the month of June, including an astronomy program with telescopes, a slide presentation about Washoe Lake, a campfire program and a full moon hike.

Meet just east of the Cinderlite gates on Goni Road. Bring water and sturdy boots or athletic shoes required.

Muscle Powered Evening Conditioning Hikes Program: A different hike every week. Hikes are 5-7 miles, usually with some elevation gain, of 1 ½ hour + duration. Participants are responsible for their own transportation and leader may request physician’s release if needed. How’d we get to Thursday so quickly? Choose from live music at Living the Good Life, a fun night of karaoke at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar, or even a lecture on the Dayton Cemetery. Join Muscle Powered for a Washoe Valley hike this morning or a bike ride this afternoon. Maybe some salsa dancing is what you’re in the mood for; if so, head to El Charro Avita. Ready to have some fun? Virginia City’s Chili on the Comstock Cook-off goes on all weekend. For some healthier fare, hit up the Spring Farmers Market downtown. Go fly a kite at Dangberg Home Historic Park, just past Douglas High School on Highway 88; their ‘Something in the Wind’ Celebration is both Saturday and Sunday. Don’t forget to leave non-perishable food by your mailbox: the annual ‘Stamp Out Hunger’ food drive is today. Take a gander at the whole list, there is plenty of stuff to do in the Carson City area this weekend.

IMPORTANT: Afternoon hike moved to a morning hike. Meet at the trailhead on Eastlake Road about 3 miles from Highway 395, directly across from Washoe State Park. If you can’t wait for your own flora to grow, join a ranger at Washoe Lake State Park during their Wildflower Walk to the Deadman’s Creek gazebo. Let the little ones burn off some energy at the Carson Car Center’s Grand Opening: free hot dogs, hamburgers, and a bounce house make for a fun time.

After that cold snap earlier this week, it’s time to go enjoy the sunshine. Spend the afternoon cheering on the WNC Wildcats as they take on Salt Lake Community College. You’ll find the softball double-header at Livermore Sports Complex off Edmonds; baseball is played at the Harvey Field at Western Nevada College. SATURDAY:

WASHOE VALLEY, Nev. – Hop over to Washoe Lake State Park this Saturday for an Easter celebration hosted by the South Valley Volunteer Fire Department. The Easter Bunny will make an appearance and the egg hunt will begin at 12:30 p.m. sharp. Food and drinks will be available for purchase. Meet at the Group Use Area pavilion. Park entrance fees are waived for this event.

Easter bonnets, baskets, eggs, and bunnies are about to descend, and here is a sneak peek at where to find the fun. Most all of the egg hunts are free, but I've made sure to include an entry price if one exists.

Celebrate Easter at the Nevada State Railroad Museum (10am-4pm; Storytime at 11am; special crafts and egg hunt; $6 adults, children free)

Here comes Peter Cottontail, hopping down Medical Parkway. The annual Eggstravaganza returns to the Carson Tahoe Medical Center this afternoon with fun for kids of all ages. You’ll find Moses parting the Red Sea on the big screen, as The Ten Commandments makes its way to the Galaxy Theater as part of their Classic Movie Series. City Manager, Nick Marano, is the featured speaker at the monthly ‘Soup’s On’ Luncheon sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. Enjoy the evening with a Jazz Jam at Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint or karaoke at Crossroads Lounge.

St. Patrick’s Day is around the corner and the celebrations have begun. The Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada has crafts and Irish dancers. Carson Lanes is hosting their annual Pot of Gold Tournament. The Downtown Reno Leprechaun Crawl is always a crazy time. Take a look at this weekend summary to find the fun for miles around.
