Military gives thanks to RSVP, Carson City community for Christmas package drive to troops

Nevada Rural Counties Retired and Senior Volunteer Program received notes of thanks recently following its "Christmas Packages to Our Troops" donation drive.

Voted Entertainer of the Year by the Bob Hope USO Shows, Chappell has performed worldwide including comedy tours to Iraq, Bahrain, Kuwait and Djibouti Africa entertaining the troops.

Traveling Vietnam Wall at Mills Park through Nevada Day Weekend

The Traveling Vietnam Wall at Mills Park in Carson City honors our fallen servicemen who made the ultimate sacrifice and paid the ultimate price in the name of freedom and duty.
The arrival of the Traveling Vietnam Wall marks the Battle Born Days Celebration highlighted during this year's Nevada Day, with a salute to America's military that includes living history re-enactments, tributes and military honors, aircraft and weapon displays, a USO dance and Bomber Girl Pin-Up Pageant.

Hundred of motorcycle riders arrived Wednesday with the Traveling Vietnam Wall in Carson City in an official escort by the Nevada Highway Patrol and Carson City Sheriff's Office.
Veterans and local military personnel assisted in the convoy that began from the Silverado Casino in Fernley and ended at Mills Park in Carson City, where it will be put up overnight in time for Nevada Day Festivities.

Nevada Day festivities will celebrate the 148th year since joining the union with the theme, “Honoring Our Military and Families Past, Present and Future” Oct. 25-28.

Dime-a-dance USO-style party

In honor of Armed Forces Day and Memorial Day, High Sierra Swing Dance Club presents a USO-style “dime-a-dance” party to honor veterans and servicepeople May 19 at the Brewery Arts Center’s Grand Ballroom, 449 W. King St., Carson City. There will be a lesson at 7 p.m., with the social dance at 8-10:30 p.m. Men may purchase tickets for 10 cents a dance (or 12 tickets for $1). Between 8 and 9 p.m., each time you dance with a different woman, give her a ticket, which will be entered into a 9 p.m. drawing for raffle prizes.
