Happy Wednesday, Carson City! Today just jumps right in and gets going from the start. The Pony Express re-ride runs through town this morning, recreating the ten day trek from St. Joseph, MO to Sacramento, CA. The Kings Canyon Trailhead opens today after a ceremony thanking all those involved in the undertaking. Enjoy music with dinner at Living the Good Life or Glen Eagles. The party is at Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint, though. Tonight they are hosting a Canadian country-tinged, psycho punk rock n’ roll band called The Creepshow. Named as “One of the top bands you need to know about” by Alternative Press, a band like this doesn’t wander into our valley often.

The Carson City Classic Cinema Club is a group of classic movie fans who present a film, produced prior to 1970, on the first Tuesday of each month. Our mission is to raise funds to help provide tools to our youth who wish to study the arts, but may be in need of resources.

There are plenty of things to do today; if you don't believe me, just take a look at the list! After enjoying a free spirits tasting at Red’s this afternoon, stick around for a movie with the Carson City Classic Cinema Club. This month is ‘The Agony and the Ecstasy:’ a 1965 Charlton Heston flick about Michelangelo and the painting of the Sistine Chapel.

Court Appointed Special Advocates is holding an information hour this evening for those who would like more information on how to volunteer.

Beginning swing dance lessons will be held at El Charro Avitas; go check out their brand new dance floor. Country Line dancing is taught at the 11th Frame lounge at Carson Lanes every Tuesday and Wednesday. Jimmy Mallett and Jack Clifton will be at Living the Good Life Nightclub and Bistro channeling all the swank of the rat pack.

The Carson City Classic Cinema Club's February film will be the 1953 drama "Indiscretion of an American Wife". The screening will be held at Red's Old 395 Grill. Everyone is invited to show up early, to take advantage of the happy hour specials.

Trivia games and film discussion will begin at 6:30 p.m.; the film will start at 7 p.m.

General admission is $5, $3 for students and seniors. The showing is free for members.

Well ladies and gentleman, it is officially that time of the year again. Next week, Jan. 26-31 is going to be filled with activities going on at Carson High School and other locations around Carson City with the annual Winterfest spirit week.
