The first anniversary celebration at Living the Good Life features Toree McGee in her first Nevada appearance. Sassafras is proud to host Wake Eastman and his special brand of outlaw honky-tonk. Grab some laughs at the Carson Nugget: Comedy night welcomes Justin Berkman. Dancers will enjoy World Dance Open Floor at Comma Coffee or swing dance at Yaple’s ballroom.

It’s hard to believe that it’s already the middle of July, and the Nevada Fair at Fuji will be upon us in no time. Head over to the Carson Visitor Center by the Museum and pick up a discounted pass for the Carnival: just $20 for a day of unlimited rides. Take a look at the list of things to do for some fun options tonight: music, dancing, karaoke. So does Cameron Crowe: screenwriter of movie favorites like Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Say Anything, and Jerry Maquire. What a crazy week in the Sierras! Afternoon thunderstorms for the last several days, flooding, hail, and even snow in Yosemite are definitely unusual for this time of year. The storms are expected to subside this weekend, so keep your fingers crossed for some sunshine. Break a leg to the Proscenium Players as they open Murder in an English Manor at the Brewery Arts Center. Senior Follies debuts this year’s performance, Flashback, at the Community Center.

July is made for picnics. Today is National Fried Chicken Day, and it does make for a good outdoors in a park kind of meal. Grab some potato salad, fresh fruit, and an umbrella: scattered thunderstorms are expected for most of the week. I’ll suggest you spend the rainy days in one of Carson City’s many art galleries, instead. The Nevada Artists Association gallery at the Brewery Arts Center, Great Basin Art Gallery on South Curry, or Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery on West Telegraph are always impressive. Check out the Carson City Arts Initiative exhibits at the BRIC and on the second floor of the Courthouse.

Nevada has a reputation for its many UFO sightings, so if the clouds aren’t in the way, you may just see some strange lights. July 2nd was chosen because of the Roswell Incident in 1947.

Songwriter Bryan Hayes will be in house for one night to help promote his new album ‘Farther Down the Line.’ Check out the Official Video for his new Single ‘I Wanna Run.’ The song was written in Mosul, Iraq, and one of Bryan's soldiers, SGT Zach Tucker, is featured in the video.

Tonight, welcome a new exhibit in the CCAI Gallery at the Courthouse: a reception for the artists of ‘Industrial Arts’ begins at 5 p.m. Meet the Journey of Hope bike riders at Western Nevada College; plenty of activities for everyone.

There is chance of rain this afternoon, so spend some time indoors checking out the new exhibit in the CCAI Courthouse Gallery. ‘Industrial Art’ presents the design work of five manufacturers in the the area including American AVK, CGI Inc., Click Bond Inc., Silver State Stainless, and Vineburg Machining Inc. The official opening reception is Friday at 5 p.m. Or enjoy the art at the Nevada Arts Council, inside the BRIC building on Proctor, inside the Sierra Room of the Community Center, or in the two galleries at the Brewery Arts Center.

  • One Putt Jr. Academy at Silver Oak Golf Course (7:45am sign in, 8am-10am; $40 per class or $200 for six classes: includes Green Fees, Pull Cart, Golf Clubs, Gatorade; space limited, ages 7-12)
  • Opening Day: Industrial Art at the CCAI Gallery in the Courthouse: 885 E. Musser (8am-5pm)
