Free online diabetes self-management classes begin Thursday

What: This 6 week self-management series of workshops was developed at Stanford University and offers anyone living with diabetes — or anyone living with or caring for someone with diabetes — the tools and skills to successfully manage their condition.
Lyon County fire crews respond to brush fire north of Silver Springs

UPDATE 4:43PM: The Piper Fire that started Friday afternoon 3 miles north of Silver Springs Piper Ranch along Highway 50A/95 is now roughly 200 acres, according to Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch. Helicopter support and crews are battling the blaze. KOLO reports 8 structures are threatened. Central Lyon Fire is being assisted by Carson City and Storey County, Nevada Division of Forestry and Bureau of Land Management.

Lyon County fire crews were called shortly after 2 p.m. Friday to a report of a brush fire that was burning in the hills north of Silver Springs off of Alternate Route U.S. 50 toward Fernley.

Reid announces $13 million In federal wastewater money for Storey County

Harry Reid announced Wednesday that the USDA has awarded $9 million in grant funding and a $4 million loan to Storey County to improve its wastewater infrastructure. The money will go toward replacing more than 13 miles of sewer lines in Virginia City and the failing community septic system in Gold Hill.

In characterizing critics of the painting as “this handful of local residents,” she echoes a favorite tactic of Corrado de Gasperis, Comstock Mining’s CEO who frequently diminishes the legitimate concerns of residents by portraying CMI critics as “a few disgruntled residents” or the like.

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Carson City District-Sierra Front Field Office is seeking public input through provisions in Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act on a proposal to reduce site safety hazards at the United Comstock Merger Mill at American Flat (AFM) in Storey County, Nevada.
The BLM requests public input on the identification of historic properties and comments on potential effects analyzed in the environmental assessment to the AFM complex relative to regulation 36 CFR Part 800.2(d) and 800.3(e).
