CARSON CITY — The Nevada State Board of Education on Monday welcomed Jhone Ebert, who was appointed by Gov. Steve Sisolak as the Superintendent of Public Instruction.

In Nevada, 24.8 percent of the class of 2018 public school students scored 3 or higher on AP exams, which qualifies them to earn college credit, placement, or both at nearly all colleges across the country.

Nationwide, 23.5 percent of the class of 2018 public school students earned 3 or higher, which demonstrates college readiness.

CARSON CITY — Four years ago Nevada entered into a compact to make a historic investment in education and, in return the state committed to holding itself accountable for results. An independent evaluation authorized by the 2017 Nevada Legislature recommended continued funding of all seven categorical education programs it reviewed, citing positive outcomes in each one.

CARSON CITY, Nev. – A routine review process by the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium identified a question where student performance didn’t appear in line with expectation. A deeper analysis by the Smarter Balanced staff resulted in the removal of the question from 8th grade math. The result is all students that answered the question saw their performance increase. Moreover there was no material change to any school ratings.

Nevada high schools posted their highest graduation rate ever at 83.17 percent for the Class of 2018, an increase of 2.32 percentage points.

Carson City School District increased 2.05 points in 2018 to 85.98 percent, according to the Nevada Department of Education.

CARSON CITY — More Nevada students who took the Advanced Placement Exam in 2018 showed they are college ready.
“Research shows that students who pass the AP Exam with a 3 or higher not only demonstrate that they are ready for freshman college classes, but that they are also more likely to graduate college in four years,” said Steve Canavero, Ph.D., Superintendent of Public Instruction.

Yerington High School in Lyon County has been named one of 31 Shining Star schools recognized by the Nevada Department of Education (NDE) for achieving four- and five-star status while also serving a high percentage of students in poverty.

The Carson City School District will receive $1.38 million in funding for third phase of the Read by Grade 3 program, also known as RBG3, the Nevada Department of Education announced Friday.
