November gaming earnings up nearly 2 percent in Carson City, 24 percent at south Tahoe

Carson City area casinos had a 1.83 percent increase in gaming revenue this November compared to November 2019, while casinos in the Stateline area of Lake Tahoe saw gaming revenue jump 23.75 percent, according to figures released Tuesday by the Nevada Gaming Control Board.

Federal Hotel opens within Carson City's Max Casino, 91 guest rooms, suites to be renovated

UPDATE: The Wyndham Garden hotel in Carson City, connected with Max Casino and the Black Bear Diner, is now the Federal Hotel, which will be part of the Choice Hotels brand.

According to General Manager Michael Newberger, Choice Hotels rebranded the hotel at 900 South Carson Street and the name change, which went into effect on Dec. 18.

There are plans in place to renovate the 91 guest rooms and suites, as well as some of the lobby area.

The ownership has not changed, however, just the name of the hotel and the hotel brand from Wyndham to Choice Hotels.

121st annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count in Carson Valley area this Saturday

The 121st annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count will be held this Saturday Jan. 2, 2021. This event is counting all birds with a 15 mile diameter circle covering the area contained approximately by the Carson River on the north, the Pine Nut foothills on the East, Bodie Flats on the South and Foothill Road on the West.

Rollover accident near the Eastlake exit reported Friday afternoon, highway shut down

UPDATE: 5:30 p.m.: the scene has been turned over to NHP.

UPDATE: 4:53 p.m.: There were two vehicles involved both with critical damage, with three patients total complaining of minor injuries. Careflight is being released.

UPDATE: 4:51 p.m.: The highway is being shut down.

UPDATE 4:50 p.m.: Careflight is in the area and ground units requested it to stay nearby in the air in case transport is needed.

UPDATE: Dispatch advised it may be closer to the Bellevue Bridge.

Carson City arrests: Man flushing items in casino toilet booked for multiple felony offenses

Two Mono County, Calif., residents were arrested Monday for suspected felony and misdemeanor offenses. Of the two, one was booked for suspicion four counts of being in possession of credit cards without the owner's consent, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office report.

Carson City Sheriff's Office investigators are working on at least 20 reports of property damage in Carson City where vandals shot at vehicles, homes, businesses, and the Nevada Secretary of State's Office. On Tuesday morning, both the Carson City Democratic and Republican headquarters were also targets of vandals.

Did you feel it? Earthquake shakes near Fernley, felt around Carson City region

A 3.7 magnitude earthquake centered southwest of Fernley shook the region on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Nevada Seismological Laboratory. There was also a large earthquake with a 5.1 magnitude, that happened this afternoon close to Mina, Nev., near Hawthorne.
