Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of events around the Carson City region. The Dayton Chamber’s 27th annual “Making A Difference” Golf Tournament arrives Friday. Carson City Kiwanis is hosting its seventh annual Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day on Saturday with several activities for all to enjoy. There will be a Community Shredding and Electronics Recycling Day Saturday, Oct. 14. The event is open to the public, and individuals and companies are encouraged to participate and is a fundraiser to support the Special Olympics of Nevada. One hundred percent of the money collected will support local athletes.

Protect the environment while also helping a great cause.

Bring in your old electronics to have them recycled such as: computers, LCD monitors, fax machines, copiers, cell phones tablets, cameras, etc.

When: Saturday, March 11th, 2017 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Spring fever is upon many of us, probably worst of all among the school kids. Let the Carson High School bands and theater program show off their stuff one last time before the end of the year; you'll find them at the Community Center at 7 p.m. It's also the time of year that sees more walkers and bicyclists on our sidewalks and roadways. Join Muscle Powered this evening as they participate in the 13th Annual Ride of Silence to remember those who have been hurt or killed while riding on public streets.

Ready to have some fun? Virginia City’s Chili on the Comstock Cook-off goes on all weekend. For some healthier fare, hit up the Spring Farmers Market downtown. Go fly a kite at Dangberg Home Historic Park, just past Douglas High School on Highway 88; their ‘Something in the Wind’ Celebration is both Saturday and Sunday. Don’t forget to leave non-perishable food by your mailbox: the annual ‘Stamp Out Hunger’ food drive is today. Greater Nevada Credit Union will host its annual Carson City Shred Day on Saturday, May 14 from 9 a.m. to noon. The event will include shredding and recycling services by Offsite Data Depot, American Document Destruction and Computer Corps.

Today has a lot going for it. Food Truck Friday is the theme of the new United Federal Credit Union’s Grand Opening week: you can find them across the street from Mill’s Park on Williams St. Earth Day weekend kicks off at Western Nevada College with a Gem and Mineral Sale during the day, followed by a presentation by World Renowned Scientist: Dr. Charles Goldman in Marlette Hall at 7 p.m. Break a leg to the cast of ‘Harvey.’ The Procenium Players open their two weekend run at the Brewery Arts Center’s Black Box Theater tonight.

Thank goodness we are only two months from the first day of summer; spring is such an unpredictable season. Blustery today, rainy tomorrow, the threat of some snow in a few days. Take advantage of a nice day whenever it appears. Bike night at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar is one way to do that.

We will have Puliz Document Destruction on site to destroy any documents, and will be accepting your old electronics to be recycled!

Greater Nevada Credit Union will host its annual Carson City Shred Day on Saturday, June 8 from 9 am to noon.
The event will include shredding and recycling services by American Document Destruction and Offsite, child safety information and K-9 Unit appearance from the Carson City Sheriff’s Office.

Mark your calendars this week for another Community Shred Day in Carson City. The event will be Friday, March 22 across from the Carson Nugget Casino ice rink area from noon to 3 p.m.

The event will take place in the parking lot at the credit union’s Eagle Station branch, located at 451 Eagle Station Lane. Community residents are invited to drop off as much personal paper documentation they would like to safely destroy and recycle. Documents must be removed from binders, though attached staples and paper clips are acceptable.
