UNR archeologist leads excavation at historic Stewart Indian School landmark in Carson City

The University of Nevada, Reno’s Department of Anthropology, in partnership with the Nevada Indian Commission and the Washoe Tribal Historic Preservation Office, is conducting an excavation at the historic Stewart Indian School in Carson City, Nev. The Stewart facility is a 110-acre historic district that is home to more than 50 historic buildings.

Alumni to be honored at Stewart Father's Day Powwow

Former students of the historic Stewart Indian School will be honored at a special recognition ceremony as part of the 2013 Stewart Father’s Day Powwow in Carson City June 14-16.

Hosted in partnership with the Nevada Indian Commission and the Stewart Alumni, the annual powwow includes quality Native American arts and crafts vendors and is also a time for alumni, former employees, families and friends to gather at the former campus.

Don't miss the final day of the Stewart Father's Day Powwow at the Stewart Facility, 5500 Snyder Ave., in Carson City. Exhibits, demonstrations, food, and art vendors and the Grand Entry Dance begins at noon today and will continue until about 4 p.m.
