The Downtown Project is more than aesthetics and declared: “Seventy percent of the total expenditures of the downtown project, currently underway, are for vital infrastructure improvements that are failing and run right down the middle of Carson Street under the medians.”

What do you want from your local Government ? Generally we answer that question with: Provide Fire and Police first. I suggest we have a more elemental need. We want the TRUTH. The residents of this community will see the wisdom of any service or project if it is based in the truth. The more the truth is shaded the more the residents will resist. Without truth there is no trust.

The project called The Vintage At Kings Canyon was presented by the managers in an open meeting at the Fritsch School on April 7th to a crowd estimated at 250-400 people.

On April 25 it was again the topic of another public meeting at the school. This time the meeting was called by the neighbors, and drew over 200 highly interested people, along with the mayor, two candidates for mayor, a supervisor, a candidate for supervisor, a reporter, a retired reporter, and other retired reporter also a candidate for supervisor.

“Carson City Supervisor, Brad Bonkowski’s …campaign signs were vandalized, defaced and destroyed sometime during the night. The signs were all spray-painted with black paint.

Chris Carver, candidate for Carson City Mayor will hold a "meet and greet fundraiser" at Glen Eagles restaurant (3700 N Carson St), on May 4th, 2016 from 6 to 8 PM. Chris's election website is at www.chriscarver4mayor.org. He considers himself a strong advocate for a government focused on essential city services including water and sewer, law enforcement, and neighborhood issues including road maintenance and storm water run-off.

The Carson City Public Works Department will hold a March 21 groundbreaking ceremony for the Phase 1A improvements at the Water Resource Recovery Facility. The $30 million project is for the repair and rehabilitation of major components of the sewer plant to ensure continued compliance with State and Federal permits.

Carson City officials broke ground this morning on the $11.4 million reconstruction project of the downtown corridor of North Carson Street, beginning a major overhaul of that area's streetscape and underground pipe network.

This week, traffic will be reduced to one lane each direction. On Monday, March 7 and Tuesday, March 8, north and southbound traffic will be diverted to the northbound side road. As work progresses, crews may be in the right lanes each direction.

In the early 1970s, as assistant city engineer in Urbana, where I attended the University of Illinois, I worked on bikeways, sewer systems to minimize pollution, promoting underground power and telephone lines, and other “green” projects. Later, as a university research engineer, I worked on many other environmental, energy and policy issues.

Nevada Sen. Harry Reid announced Wednesday that the USDA has awarded $9 million in grant funding and a $4 million loan to Storey County to improve its wastewater infrastructure. A couple weeks ago I received an email from a gentleman who I will call Joe. “Joe” said he has been visiting Carson City for over 30 years and liked it so much that he recently moved here from San Diego. Minden, Nevada – Douglas County Emergency Management is currently working on managing the current flooding in the Stephanie and Johnson Lane areas of Douglas County.

Douglas County, like other northern Nevada Counties has been hit with several daily rounds of heavy precipitation laden thunderstorms for over a week now.

The Downtown 2020 group initiated and promoted the Downtown Carson City Renovation plan. This took years of planning, relentless meetings with the Board of Supervisors and working with many different city agencies, City Planner, City Manager and engineers.

During this process there have been meetings with all the businesses and reaching out to the college and our high school to get them involved. We had public meetings where we listened and adapted your concerns to our plan for we understood that to be successful it takes a village.

Many of you might be wondering the same thing about me. Why I haven’t written for a spell? I could list numerous reasons, some might be worth mentioning, and others would be insignificant.

The Nevada Department of Transportation begins construction today on the $42 million final leg of the Carson City Freeway project.

Road crews will pave and open the last four miles of the freeway to traffic between Fairview Drive and the Spooner, Highway 50 junction in south Carson City, including construction of sound walls and drainage features. The project is expected to complete, opening the final segment of freeway to traffic, in 2017, according to NDOT. It is being constructed by contractors Road and Highway Builders.

After reviewing proposals and finalists, the Carson City Board of Supervisors and Public Works have picked Q&D Construction to serve as the Construction Manager at Risk for the Downtown Carson Street Urban Design Project, said Carson City Public Works Downtown Project Manager Danny Rotter.

The Nevada Department of Transportation’s Carson City Freeway Project has reached an important milestone with the recent opening of construction contract bids for the project’s final leg.

Road and Highway Builders’ approximately $42 million bid was named as the apparent low bid for the project. Final bid approval and contract execution will take place in future weeks, with the contract pending ultimate approval at the state transportation board’s May 11 meeting.

“To get along, one must go along.” All too often I have heard this in the last two years. For me, the epiphany of understanding this phrase came in my second year when I realized nothing is going to change, not even this phrase. Puzzling to me is why some think there is a need to build a political consensus; yet, they build a political Berlin Wall and stand behind it saying, “it ain’t me causing this.”
