Nevada Arts Council announces fiscal year 2020 grant recipients

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Arts Council announced Friday the awarding of more than $1 million in statewide grants to 172 recipients ranging from individual artists to nonprofit organizations and public institutions for the 2020 fiscal year.

Reno Chamber Orchestra with Clive Greensmith (cello)

Cellist Clive Greensmith, former cellist of the legendary Tokyo String Quartet and a longtime Nevada Chamber Music Festival favorite, makes his first Reno Chamber Orchestra appearance. He is featured in the Rococo Variations by Tchaikovsky, the lovely “Minstrel’s Song” by Alexander Glazunov, and Lukas Foss’s Capriccio. Also on the program are works by Mozart and Bizet.

The Reno Chamber Orchestra presents Catherine Manoukian. The performance begins with the seldom performed yet stunningly beautiful Violin Concerto by the English composer Sir Edward Elgar. Performed by the Canadian violinist Catherine Manoukian the concerto is a marathon for both soloist and orchestra. The concert is rounded out by an early symphony of the Czech composer Antonin Dvorak considered heavily influenced by the German Richard Wagner. Reno Chamber Orchestra presents Bella Hristova with performance of Myth and Romance

The Reno Chamber Orchestra presents Bella Hristova. The performance begins with an audience favorite by Mendelssohn, the Hebrides Overture. Bella Hristova then joins the RCO in a performance of the Violin Concerto written for her by her husband-to-be, David Ludwig, as a wedding gift. The program ends on a high note with the most humorous of all Beethoven symphonies, Number 8 in the key of F major. Elegant Evening with Reno Chamber Orchestra

The Reno Chamber Orchestra presents an elegant evening of chamber music. The event will include performances by Ruth Lenz, John Lenz, Peter Lenz, Carol Laube, Kati Dayner and Dustin Budish who will be playing the music of Mozart and Brahms.

James Winn, professor at the University of Nevada, Reno and RCO principal pianist, performs his own Piano Concerto, written for the RCO over twenty years ago, as well as the Burleske by the young Richard Strauss. Maestro Theodore Kuchar also leads the Orchestra in a symphony by Mozart made famous in the film Amadeus, as well as the delightful “Classical” Symphony by Prokofiev.

Reno Chamber Orchestra Presents Tomasz Golka & CCC Winner

Guest conductor Maestro Tomasz Golka leads the Reno Chamber Orchestra in Nightingale Concert Hall on Saturday, March 14 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, March 15 at 2 p.m. in a program starting with Haydn’s No. 39 and Schubert’s “Tragic” minor key symphonies. Next enjoy a modern composition by composer Witold Lutoslawski, as well as Tchaikovsky’s Rococo Variations performed by cellist Xiao Lai Zhou, the first prize winner of the Reno Chamber Orchestra’s 2015 College Concerto Competition. 28th Annual Derby Day presented by the Reno Chamber Orchestra

5th Annual CHS Safe and Sober 5k Run/Walk a Success

The 5th annual CHS Safe and Sober 5k Run/Walk was a tremendous success with turn-out of 113 participants. The weather cleared up this morning and with just a bit of wind at race time, we couldn’t have asked for more perfect weather, maybe even a sunburn.
