Toy donations needed for Carson City children

We are looking for things like dolls, crayons/coloring books, games, toy cars, puzzles, etc. Little things make such a big difference to children whose families don't have much.
Will you please help us make a child's Christmas happy? If so, please call or text 775-434-5786 and we will make arrangements for a drop-off, or we will even pick up for you!

Senator Square: Carson High School students make plans for their future

Chamber Orchestra Students returned from their successful regional music festival in San Francisco, several CHS students enjoyed job shadowing with Nevada Legislators, and May 21 offered students access to its job and career fair throughout the day.

Such is not a new experience for 2018 Sierra Lutheran High School alumna Aleyna Gilson, who will find the spotlight on her again at the end of this month when she performs Mendelssohn’s concerto in E minor at the Orchestra Concerto Concert at Point Loma Nazarene University, in San Diego.

Friends of the Carson City Library to celebrate Browsers Bookstore anniversary Wednesday

Senator Square: Gearing up for the Carson High School talent show

Auditions for the talent show will be on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2:05 p.m. in the upstairs cafeteria at CHS. Audition applications can be picked up from room No. 243 or the office. The CHS talent show is only open to ninth through 12th graders at CHS and cash prizes are awarded. The CHS chapter of FBLA is hosting this event. For more information, contact Mrs. Golik at 283-1737.

Masters Heads to 'Speed Cubing' Competition
Submitted by editor on Wed, 04/16/2014 - 7:30amBen Masters, 13, travels Saturday to University of California, Berkeley to participate in an official World Cube Association competition at Wheeler Hall.
Ben, who has been practicing his “cubing” skills about five months, has a personal best time of “about 17 seconds,” which has been perfected as he has practiced during his free time through each day and has worked up to doing five or six “solves” per hour, he said. He attends eighth grade at Dayton Intermediate School.

Outdoors with Don Q: Indian Creek Reservoir in the Springtime
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Thu, 04/04/2013 - 12:57amIf you have a 2013 California fishing license and if you are looking for somewhere to fish that is fairly close to the Carson City area, look no further than Indian Creek Reservoir (ICR) in nearby Alpine County.
You just might want to seriously consider ICR as it contains cutthroat, brown and rainbow trout, plus even some bass.
That trout-filled reservoir is a mere 39 miles from our front door and it is easily reached from here by two different directions:
Consequences of business incentives

Now that Carson City handed out more generous incentives to retailers in Southgate Center than it had to others in the past, it's now faced with other businesses who want their incentives, too.
