Jason Brown spent a recent afternoon shopping at Rocking and Rolling in downtown Carson City. He bought an old-spoon necklace and some blue-lace agate and smoky quartz for his children’s rock collection. “She has all the cool ones, and she polishes them herself,” he said.
Carson City Judge sentences man in Olive Garden rampage calling actions an 'act of terrorism'
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 09/23/2014 - 6:24pmA Carson City judge sentenced a 57-year-old man to prison for terrorizing customers and employees with a loaded weapon at an Olive Garden restaurant here in July 2013.
David Paul Lane was handed the maximum sentence of at least 11 years by Judge James Wilson on one count of assault with a deadly weapon and one count of carrying a concealed weapon following last month's conviction.
On July 21, 2013, Lane entered Olive Garden with a concealed firearm, drew it and pointed it at employees and patrons. In arguing for the maximum sentence, Assistant District Attorney Mark Krueger stated:

Several misdemeanor arrests made by Carson City authorities during weekend

A 26-year-old Carson City woman was arrested at 5:27 p.m. at Walmart in the 3200 block of Market Street. She faces misdemeanor charges of petit larceny and disorderly conduct. A 34-year-old woman with her face charges of petit larceny and violation of a suspended sentence.
Carson City Sheriff's Office reports increase in vehicle burglaries
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 06/17/2013 - 9:11amThe Carson City Sheriff's Office reports an uptick in vehicle burglaries around town and asks residents to take pro-active measures to avoid becoming victims.
According to Sgt. Darrin Sloan, the sheriff's office looks at each case to identify patterns to help thwart this type of crime, but lately, patterns are not showing themselves.
There are, however, numerous vehicle burglary cases that have aspects in common, including unlocked doors, open windows and valuables left in plain view, said Sloan in a news release.
Designer purse fundraiser Saturday to benefit Carson City Senior Center meal program
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 06/14/2013 - 11:18amIt's going to be a very busy Saturday in Carson City with so much to do for every age group. An event women will love is the Designer Purse Sale sponsored by the Carson City Senior Citizens Center between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Women can never have enough purses and this will be a way to have some incredible purses at a fraction
of the retail cost. All funds raised help provide meals for our local senior citizens. The Senior Center has served nearly 92,000 meals in their FY 2011-2012.
The senior center is located at 911 Beverly Drive.

Three teens arrested after Carson City deputy sees them breaking into cars
Submitted by editor on Mon, 11/15/2010 - 4:18amThree juveniles are in custody after Carson City authorities found them breaking into vehicles along East Robinson street early this morning.
Two 14-year-old boys and a 17-year-old admitted to the thefts and told officers after they were caught which vehicles they burglarized, said Deputy Thomas McDonald. About a dozen cars were broken into along Robinson Street.
Carson City DA and sheriff warn of uptick in purse snatching cases
Submitted by editor on Thu, 09/02/2010 - 6:57pmCarson City residents should be on alert following a rash of purse thefts from local businesses, vehicles and government office buildings, District Attorney Neil Rombardo and Sheriff Kenny Furlong said today in a joint news statement.
At least a dozen women’s wallets and purses were stolen from area businesses and vehicles between May and August, according to the statement. Among the thefts include:
— A woman’s wallet was stolen from her purse as she tried on a wedding gown in a South Carson Street bridal store.
