Forest Service cancels Taylor Creek Visitor Center programs, Fall Fish Festival at Lake Tahoe
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 07/30/2020 - 1:42pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — After much discussion and deliberation, the USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit has made the difficult decision to cancel planned interpretive programs and visitor services at the Taylor Creek Visitor Center through the end of October, including second- and third-grade conservation education field trips. In addition, we have made the decision to cancel the Fall Fish Festival this year, an event that typically draws up to 12,000 visitors over the weekend.

Lyon County implements diesel tax, votes down new subdivision

The County Manager and Comptroller have recommended the budget with no salary increases and a projected 6.6% ending fund balance which is lower than the 16.67% authorized by Nevada Revised Statutes.
The County Manager also recommended that the Board not fund any of the 35.8 positions requested by the various departments including:

1 Information Systems Technician
1 Community Development Director
1 Public Works Director
Nevada governor calls for state office closures, limits on large gatherings to slow ‘rapid spread’ of coronavirus

Steve Sisolak said that while a testing kit shortage makes it impossible to tell how much coronavirus has affected Nevada, the pace of the virus’ spread around the world means Nevada must “act quickly” to slow it — including taking drastic measures such as shutting state offices, limiting the size of gatherings and encouraging employees to work from home if possible.
NDOT seeks public input on update to rural transit services management plan

This funding represents the majority of the budget transit operators use to provide much-needed transit services to rural areas of the state.

Douglas brings back online county budget challenge

Residents can participate in one of the budgeting exercises centered on the question, “How would you spend $500 to fund what is most important to you in Douglas County?”
Residents will also have the opportunity to make general comments about the budget process, upload photos or videos to illustrate their concerns or suggestions and put a value on the priorities they think are most important.

Many of America’s largest corporations and wealthiest individuals use accounting gimmicks to shift profits made in America to offshore tax havens, where they pay little to no taxes. This tax avoidance costs the federal government $150 billion in tax revenue each year. USPIRG released new data illustrating the size of this loss with 16 dramatic ways the public could benefit from those lost funds.

The aim of the class is to teach business owners and managers about the functions and workings of the sheriff's department as pertains to businesses. It is especially recommended to businesses in the casino, liquor, pawn, retail, restaurant, and auto repair industries.

Speakers, Audience Argue at Forum on Economic Impacts of Illegal Immigration
