Senator Square: Sheriff, school district, Partnership Carson City promoting safe, sober NYE

A great beginning to a new year starts with safety first, and the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with Carson City School District and Partnership Carson City, is promoting its Safe and Sober New Year’s for all Carson City youth by offering support to any middle school or high school student having a get-together on New Year’s Eve.

Carson High School celebrated its first Week of Respect Oct. 3-7. Students and staff participated in daily activities promoting positive interactions to support a safe and respectful learning environment. Highlights of the week included interactive game stations where students gathered in Senator Square and engaged in board games and brain teasers.

Nevada moves toward shared parenting with new law

Nevada has moved from being among the worst states for shared parenting laws to being in the top third. Shared parenting is a flexible arrangement where children spend as close to equal time with each parent as possible after divorce or separation if both parents are fit. It has been shown to be highly beneficial to most children. The changes in the Nevada custody law were brought about by Nevada’s Parental Rights Protection Act of 2015.
