It may be a Monday, but it gets us closer to one of my favorite festivities: the Nevada Day Parade. The holidays come rolling along quickly after that. For those who need some help this Thanksgiving, you can sign up for a food basket at the Salvation Army. A Holiday Craft Show at Browsers Corner Bookstore will give you a head start on that gift list; consider a Friends of the Carson City Library Membership for your more bookish friends. The World Championship doesn’t begin until tomorrow, so get your sports fix with the Texans/Broncos match-up in tonight’s Monday Night Football game.

Breathe in some crisp autumn air and take in the beauty of the changing leaves as you accompany Muscle Powered on an early morning bike ride. Get those costumes ready, the Halloween parties start tonight. Ed’s Doghouse’s party kicks off at 6 p.m. and is celebrating proprietor and namesake’s birthday as well. Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar has DJ Mobeatz and DJ Cillo keeping you on the dance floor. Scaryoke at Whiskey Tavern combines karaoke, beer pong, and drink specials for a super crazy fun time. Body-painter extraordinaire, Lynzie Ruckuer, teams up with DJ Brunch Dizzle for an American Horror Story themed party at Remedy’s.

You know you’re probably going to need some coffee, so head over to Dutch Brothers in the Carson Mall parking lot. One dollar of every drink goes to the Carson High Safe Grad Celebration. Western Nevada College is hosting an open house in the Reynolds Center for Technology featuring some of their great programs. Stick around for the artist reception celebrating the ‘521 Days’ exhibit by artist Wes Lee in the Bristlecone Building’s main gallery. Stop what you’re doing at 10:20 a.m. and brace yourself: the Great Nevada Shake-out Drill reminds us to be ready for earthquakes.

Whoo-hoo for Wednesday. The week keeps plugging along and the temperatures are rising. Head to McFadden Plaza for this afternoon’s Farmers Market; they are almost over for the year. The League of Women Voters and Sierra Nevada Forums are almost done with this election, but not before they bring you a discussion about four of our ballot questions: be at the BAC Performance Hall by 6pm to see what they have to say.

Halloween is two weeks away, the Nevada Day Parade a few days before, and the 2016 election a few days after. Learn more about our local races during the Chamber of Commerce Candidate Forum today at noon. It will be streaming live right here on CarsonNow.org. Kids will enjoy the Makerspace at the Carson City Library where they can get their hands on some fun, yet educational, activities. Advocates to End Domestic Violence is holding a week long toiletry drive beginning today: donations will be accepted at Classy Seconds Thrift Shop and are much appreciated.

I’m usually a lover of sunny days, but right now I say bring on the rain. The moisture is a welcome help to our heroic firefighters in Lake Tahoe and Washoe Valley. Because of the wet weather and the recent fires, some activities have been postponed: most notably the Advocates to End Domestic Violence’s Annual Light After Dark Run. There are still plenty of things to occupy your time, but the weather may force more cancellations.

The Carson Mall Fine Arts Faire has a powerful synergy of businesses working together and artist advocacy to provide a visual arts show for the Carson City community.

On November 3, 4 and 5, the Carson Mall located at 1313 South Carson Street, Carson City will be hosting the first ever Fine Arts Faire, which will include the work of over 25 artists from primarily Northern Nevada and as far away as Kalispell, Montana.

Geeks Who Drink Trivia at Westside Pour House, an open mic and jam at Firkin and Fox, and Jazz with Judith and Rocky at Living the Good Life all prove to be a good time. The Mayoral and Board of Supervisor candidates take the stage at the Brewery Art Center Performance Hall for another voter’s forum; the ballot question on Gas Tax Indexing will be discussed as well.

Pick your poison, Carson City. Art, music, politics, film, hiking: all are available today. CCAI brings us a Nevada Neighbors talk with one of the artists featured in the Nevada Museum of Art. The Wired Wednesday group has a workshop for filmmakers in time for the upcoming creepy film festival and competition. Local candidates can be found at the BAC Performance Hall in the first of three voters' forums. It's hard to miss the new 'Home Means Nevada' mural on the side of CAL Ranch at Winnie Lane; the opening ceremony for our newest piece of art is at 2 p.m.

The weekend continues for school students. While Columbus Day is usually not celebrated in Nevada, it is a professional development day for our school district. Take the kids to Carson Lanes for $1 bowling. Carson Library is offering a Makerspace for Kids this afternoon with hands-on STEAM activities that make learning fun. Capital City Arts Initiative keeps three galleries packed with new and interesting exhibits. Today, they welcome artist Chelsea Pegram to their space on the second floor of the Courthouse: all are welcome to the reception this evening at 5 p.m. The night sky is the topic of today’s program at Washoe Lake State Park; look up after dusk for a chance to catch some shooting stars.

As the sun sets earlier and the nights get colder, we prepare for all things autumn. In Carson City that’s Nevada Day, but Halloween is just as beloved. Virginia City gets a jump on all things ghoulish with their annual REDRUN zombie obstacle course this weekend – go HERE to register or for more information.
