This is a reminder that Pyramid Lake, which is located about 30 miles north of Reno-Sparks, will close on Thursday, June 30 to 2010-2011 fishing for Lahontan cutthroat trout.
That large, desert lake has a three-month trout closure, each year, from July 01 to September 30. On October 1, it will re-open for the 2011-2012 cutthroat trout fishing season.

- You will be on the Pyramid Lake Paiute Indian Reservation.
Prescribed Fire Ops Possible Near Pioneer Trail and U.S. 50 Next Week
Submitted by editor on Sat, 06/18/2011 - 1:02pmU.S. Forest Service fuels management crews may conduct prescribed fire operations on the south side of the intersection of Pioneer Trail and U.S. Highway 50 in the community of Meyers near South Lake Tahoe early next week if weather conditions permit, according to a news release.
The project is about 30 acres and consists of piles of vegetation and woody materials remaining after fuels reduction efforts aimed at reducing wildfire risk to the community.

That large, desert lake (roughly the same surface size as Lake Tahoe) has a three-month trout closure, each year, from July 01 to September 30. On Oct. 1, it will re-open for the 2011-2012 cutthroat fishing season.
Nevada to recognize carry concealed weapons permits of 15 states
Submitted by editor on Wed, 06/08/2011 - 5:42pmCARSON CITY — The Nevada Sheriffs’ and Chiefs’ Association members agreed at a meeting last month to recognize the carry concealed weapon permits of 15 states as being valid in Nevada beginning July 1.
The states agreed to at the May 5 meeting are: Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Rhode Island, Tennessee and West Virginia, according to a news release submitted by Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

Here in Carson City, several events and rides were held, capped by Bike To Work Week from May 16-20 and the celebration on the 20th outside the Firkin & Fox. As reported, about 150 people came by to visit, enjoy others’ bikes, and get a chance to win a raffle prize. The Nevada Legislature passed two bills in its current session that benefit cyclists (see sidebar below).

After amendments, Senate Bill 299 would allow local governments to require dog and cat breeders to obtain a permit. The breeder’s workplace would also be open for inspection, and breeders would be required not to breed female dogs younger than 18 months or more than once per year.

Prospectus issued for campground concessions

The Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest issued a prospectus on April 1, 2011, for two campgrounds’ concession operations that will begin January 1, 2012. The prospectus solicits proposals to operate and maintain campgrounds and day-use areas under a special use permit.
The operator is responsible for all operations and maintenance of facilities in the permit. Fees collected from users accrue to the concessionaire, with a percentage returned to the government as a permit fee.
Front counter hours change, office now closed Tuesdays at Tahoe Regional Planning Agency

Front counter services exist for customers to submit permit applications and get project and property information. The updated schedule reflects the Agency's commitment to customer service following a recent reorganization and staff reduction, the statement said.

Burn permits available at Carson City Fire Department

An open burn period allows residents the chance to dispose of weeds and yard debris. For safety reasons, the fire department will again require residents to obtain permit before burning is allowed. Permits will be issued on a walk-in basis beginning March 21 at the following locations:

Pyramid Lake (which is roughly the same surface size as Lake Tahoe) is about 30 miles north of Reno-Sparks, and it contains Lahontan Cutthroat Trout that routinely run into “Double Digits” in weight.

Pyramid Lake is approximately 15 miles long, 11 miles wide and measures 350 feet deep at its deepest point.
U.S. Chamber Study Highlights National, Nevada Economic Losses Due To Stalled Energy Projects

The study says the delays are costing the state’s economy $66.9 billion in GDP and that 86,700 jobs a year could be created in Nevada during the construction phase of the projects.

Man arrested after carrying concealed and ready to fire weapons without permit
Submitted by editor on Mon, 01/31/2011 - 4:21pmA Reno truck driver faces weapons and other charges after he was arrested Sunday in Carson City and found to be in illegal possession of a loaded short barrel shotgun and a fully-loaded and ready-to-fire .44 magnum pistol in his waistband.
John Thomas Aston, 67, was arrested in the 2100 block of Highway 50 East at about 9:20 a.m. Sunday after an officer initiated a stop when the plates on his vehicle didn't match those on record.
Tahoe planning agency to appeal shorezone ruling
