More than 50 Carson City and nearby residents are planning to gather on Monday, April 9, to take part in an unprecedented week-long nationwide progressive mobilization, called 99% Spring, to take back the country for the 99%. Reno area residents will also be meeting on Saturday and Sunday, April 14 and 15.

Join Occupy Carson City participants and other community members in Downtown Carson City on Monday night, April 9th, during a nationwide 99% Spring Training week initiated by MoveOn.org.

We'll learn more about what happened to our economy, more about the history of non-violent direct action, and make plans for using that knowledge on grassroots campaigns to win change.

On Thursday at Noon, Occupy Carson City demonstrators, MoveOn.org members and homeowners in crisis will rally at the local Obama for America (OFA) office in Carson City, NV to demand that government-controlled mortgage lenders Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac provide relief to ten million underwater homeowners by adjusting their mortgages to reflect the true value of their home.

Get up and stand up for your fellow Americans at a "Save American Homes" demonstration hosted by Occupy Carson City members. Join us on your lunch hour during our Thursday, March 15 event from 12Noon until 2pm in front of the Carson City Democratic Campaign Office to deliver our message and a petition to President Obama. Get up! Stand up! with Occupy Carson City participants as we speak out against government failures and corporate abuses on Saturdays from 12-2pm. As fellow citizens, we will peacefully rally for immediate change on the public sidewalks in front of the State Legislative building at 401 S. Carson St. downtown.

We have music and plenty of signs; feel free to bring a flag, your own sign, and any musical instrument (small drums, flutes and maracas are nice for our short marches).

Sheriff Kenny Furlong was in Reno Wednesday morning taping an interview for "The Last Wild Place," a locally-produced radio show hosted by country singer Lacy J. Dalton. Furlong talked about some of the Carson City Sheriff's Department fixtures, including it's large and passionate volunteer force, and discussed holiday safety tips.

Also interviewed were two members of Occupy Carson City and a Stagecoach resident running for Nevada State Assembly.

Occupy Carson City, an offshoot of the worldwide Occupy Wall Street movement, will be staging a protest Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, at the Nevada State Legislature on Carson St., from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The public is welcome to attend the protest appropriately being held on Human Rights Day, and Occupy Carson City has chosen this day to take a stand and protest for human rights above corporate rights. The protest comes on the heels of a recently-released study that ranked Nevada last in the nation for children's healthcare, often considered an indicator of human rights in any particular

There is supposed to be a story here about a man being tried in the beating death of a boy, but instead the story is about a local family finalizing the adoptions of three of their 21 children. The full story about that family is here.

The Carson City Board of Supervisors approved a plan to allow the Jump Around Carson bus service to place advertising on its bus shelters to earn extra revenue. The plan comes with some restrictions, such as limiting the size of ads and not allowing them in historic districts.

Occupy Carson City held an impromptu demonstration in front of the legislature, coinciding with nationwide protests.

Occupy Wall Street began their two-week march from Nov. 9-23 to Washington, D.C. to tell Congress' Deficit Super Committee that the Occupy movement is against any extension of the Bush tax cuts. An extension of those cuts, which are due to expire in 2012, as well as reducing the tax rate on the highest bracket from 35 percent to 28 percent is being suggested as part of possible negotiations in creating the deficit reduction package which has a deadline of Nov. 23.

Carson City, NV - Occupy Carson City, an extension of the Occupy Wall St. movement, will hold their weekly peaceful assembly on Saturday from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the Legislature Sidewalks at 401 S. Carson Street in Downtown Carson City. Everyone is welcome to participate, and the group has been in close communication with law enforcement to avoid any problems.

Occupy Carson City, an offshoot of the worldwide Occupy Wall Street movement, will be staging a protest Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011, at the Nevada State Legislature on Carson St., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. They invite the media and the public to attend. Anyone who encourages violence will be politely asked to leave. This will not be an occupation – there will be no camping.

The Occupy Carson City rally has begun in front of the Nevada Legislature on Carson Street. The event is being held in conjunction with Occupy events in nearly 951 cities in 82 different countries, inspired by the Occupy Wall Street protests in New York.

At least 70 people have gathered today for Occupy Carson City. The rally is in front of the Nevada State Legislature and will last through 1 p.m. Today's gathering is a part of a larger Global Day of Protest for the entire movement, designed to communicate the message that 99 percent of Americans are unified in their demand for government policies and laws to that benefit citizens instead of corporations.
Occupy Carson City is being monitored by the American Civil Liberties Union.

Occupy Carson City rally is scheduled for Saturday October 15th. We will meet at Comma Coffee at 10:30 AM, and the rally will take place across the street in front of the Nevada State Legislature from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM. Bring your signs! You are the 99%!

I stood outside of Comma Coffee Wednesday night, observing the people entering. I was hoping a friend of mine was going to come.

Finally, I went inside. There was a sign leaning against a chair that said OCCUPY NV CAPITOL. I introduced myself; these were the people I was here to see.

There were only 12 or 13 of us, but we all had one thing in common: we were disenchanted. We were the hungry, the tired of being pushed around, the broke. We are the 99%.
