Did you know that our relatively small community has 26 libraries which are not managed, operated or funded in an integrated way?

Qualifying for a seed at the World Championship Robotics Championships is no easy feat. Teams compete in their local area to receive a coveted invitation to the international robotics champions at the World Festival, also known as the "Superbowl of Smarts".

Teams become ambassadors for their region and schools, and take on the additional challenge to earn their way to St. Louis, MO. Held at the Edward Jones Dome, in the biggest FIRST® Championship ever, 12,000 students from 32 countries competed in three robotics championships.

Nevada Wildfire Awareness Week - A time to review your homeowner’s insurance

CARSON CITY – Nevada’s insurance carriers have reported to the Nevada Division of Insurance (Division) that they have received around 1,100 claims as a result of the Caughlin Ranch and Washoe Drive fires. The dollar amount of these claims, mostly due to fire, wind or smoke damage is approaching $35 million.

These insurance claim estimates show the dangers of wildfire. Nevadans should take action during Nevada Wildfire Awareness Week (NWAW) to prepare their homes and evaluate their insurance to prepare for wildfire season.

State Lawmakers Call For Review Of 20-Year Solar Contract

CARSON CITY – State lawmakers today approved $46,284 from a legislative contingency fund to help the Nevada Office of the Military cover a budget shortfall due to high energy costs resulting from a solar project built at three of its sites around the state.

But lawmakers also asked for an attorney general review of the 20-year deal with Sierra Solar to see if the 15 cent per kilowatt hour charge for the electricity can be modified. The rate is now higher than what the agency could get buying power directly from NV Energy.

Solar Day in Carson City

There will be two events today in Carson City dedicating new solar generation installations.

This morning at 11:30 a.m., Officials with Western Nevada College, Black Rock Solar and NV Energy will be celebrating completion of a 200-kilowatt solar project at the WNC college. NV Energy will be presenting a check for $940,000 to the college as part of the company's SolarGenerations program to help offset the cost.
