Multi-dance Ball and Showcase at Pipers Opera House, Virginia City

Coming Friday, August 9th, to Piper’s Opera House in Virginia City! The evening will include showcase dance routines by students and professionals. After the show, enjoy a Ball filled with lots of music for various dances! Including Ballroom, Swing, Latin, and Country. Music will be provided by The Craig Fletcher Band, and DJ music from Yaple’s Ballroom. A professional videographer and photographer from Lasting Touch will be there, dress formal and get your picture taken! Enjoy food from the salad and dessert bar. There will also be a soda bar with vintage sodas for sale for $2.

CHS Volleyball Summer Camp

The Carson High School Volleyball camp will take place in the CHS Big Gym Thursday August 8th and Friday August 9th from 7:30 - 2:30 each day. Cost of the camp is $75. Registration will take place just outside the gym starting at 7:00 AM. It is a skill and development camp for all ages with individual and group instruction. NHP identifies Mark Flora of Texas as second victim of June 23 Highway 50 crash in Carson City

The Nevada Highway Patrol has identified Mark Allen Flora, 59, of Texas as the second victim of a deadly crash June 23 on Highway 50 in Carson City.

Flora was involved in the head-on crash that also killed 26-year-old Sierra Grace Woodward of Carson City.

The driver of the Nissan Altima believed to be responsible for the crash, Jason William Cloutier, 34, of Carson City, remains in serious condition at Renown Regional Medical Center. Flora was driving a Ford Taurus when he was struck by Cloutier's car which caused it to burst into flames.

Have you ever heard of duct tape prom dresses? Well, we won’t be learning how to make those but we will be making duct tape smallets, or small wallets, with Turi Becker! With a variety of colors available, you can be as creative as you want with designs and pockets! This program is geared toward upper elementary and teens.

Small fire near Sundridge Road south of Carson City in Douglas County knocks out power

A small fire Thursday afternoon near the Carson City and Douglas County line has been contained but caused a power outage in the Indian Hills area and around Sundridge Road.

East Fork Fire and Douglas County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 2 p.m. fire on the corner of Highway 395 and Sunridge Road, said Douglas County Sheriff's Sgt. Pat Brooks.

The fire was quickly contained, however it has caused a power outage in the area that include the traffic lights at the intersection of Highway 395 and Sunridge.

NV Energy proposes rate decrease of about 52 cents a month for Northern Nevada customers

Electric rates for NV Energy customers in Carson City and Northern Nevada would decrease by about 52 cents a month, according to a proposed rate adjustment. The public is invited to a consumer session Tuesday, July 2 to comment on the planned changes. The session is being hosted by the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada.

NV Energy's application seeks approval of fuel and purchased power expenses for 2012 and to reset several renewable energy and energy efficiency program rates.

Carson City woman Sierra Woodward identified in Sunday's fatal Highway 50 crash

A 26-year-old Carson City woman, Sierra Grace Woodward, has been identified as one of the two victims who died in a fiery car crash Sunday on Highway 50 in Carson City, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

NHP: Alcohol believed a factor in fiery car crash that killed 2 in Carson City on Highway 50

UPDATE 12:36PM: Alcohol is believed to be a factor in a deadly two-car crash on Highway 50 in Carson City early Sunday morning in which a driver was going the wrong way, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol. Two people died and one remains in critical condition.

The preliminary crash investigation details indicate a blue Nissan Altima, driven by 34-year-old Jason W. Cloutier of Carson City, was traveling the wrong way, or east, in the left westbound travel lane of Highway 50, said NHP Trooper Barbara Stapleton.
