CARSON CITY — The Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation is warning businesses that an email with a subject line “Important Notice (Urgent Response Required)” is not from the agency, but a phishing email targeting Nevada employers.

The Office of the Labor Commissioner reminds Nevada employers that the minimum wage will increase effective July 1, 2020. Assembly Bill 456, passed by the 2019 Nevada Legislature, increases the minimum wage in increments of 75 cents annually through 2024.

CARSON CITY — The Silver State added 3,800 jobs the first month of 2019 and 53,300 jobs over the past year, according to the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation’s January 2019 economic report.

Nevada has set records for six consecutive quarters for the total number of employers, increasing by 1,240 or 1.9 percent in the fourth quarter of 2015, according to figures released Wednesday by the state's Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation. This brings the total to 66,900 as of the first quarter of 2016.

CARSON CITY — There is good news for Nevada employers as Acting Commissioner Amy L. Parks approved a filing from the National Council on Compensation Insurance for an average decrease of 5.5 percent for Nevada workers’ compensation voluntary insurance loss costs.

Nevada is one of 23 states with laws protecting the medical use of marijuana. Although the laws vary widely in each of the 23 states, the standard rule is that individuals with qualifying medical conditions may legally use marijuana.

The number of employers in Nevada set a new record, reaching 61,200 in the fourth quarter of 2014, the Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation announced Monday. The previous record was set in the second quarter of 2008 at 60,600 employers.

CARSON CITY, Nev. — Many Nevada employers will see a small decrease in the premiums they pay for workers’ compensation insurance this year.

Insurance Commissioner Scott J. Kipper has approved a filing from the National Council on Compensation Insurance for an average decrease of 0.5 percent for Nevada workers’ compensation voluntary insurance loss costs. Nevada employers who purchase their workers’ compensation insurance in the assigned-risk market will see an average rate decrease of 5 percent. Both changes will take effect on March 1, 2015.

The Employment Security Division held a public hearing Wednesday to allow members of the public and business community to comment on the proposed unemployment insurance tax rate increase from 1.95 percent to 2 percent, which will go into effect Jan. 1, 2015.

Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto and her office received the “Patriotic Employer” award given by the Office of the Secretary of Defense, Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR). The Award recognizes the Nevada Attorney General’s Office for “supporting employee participation in America’s National Guard and Reserve Force.”

The Nevada Business Group on Health, a non-profit organization dedicated to representing more than 70 Northern Nevada employers and their employees in matter related to cost-effective health, health care and health insurance products and services, has appointed Denise Darling, director of finance at Carson Nugget Casino in Carson City, to its board of directors.

Employers wanting to know about what to expect from the Affordable Care Act are invited to a Carson City luncheon next month hosted by the Nevada Business Group on Health.

The “Look into Your Future” luncheon on Dec. 4 will feature guest speaker Russ Sullivan, attorney and vice president of Health Care Solutions for the Associated Industries of Massachusetts, who will present an interactive session that draws upon lessons from Massachusetts’ seven-year health care reform experience. Sullivan will provide insight into how to prepare for the changes ahead.

CARSON CITY – Workers compensation insurance premiums will go up slightly for many Nevada employers this year, the state's Division of Insurance reports.

The average premium increase in the voluntary market will be about 1.1 percent. Nevada employers who purchase their workers’ compensation insurance in the assigned risk market will see an average increase of 2.5 percent. Both increases will take effect on March 1, 2013.
